Comments about Tama Rockstar 5-Piece Shell Pack:
The Tama 5-piece Rockstar shell pack is a great purchase for any drummer. The quality of these drums is amazing. I could not believe how well they sounded when I first set them up. I have been a drummer for 15 years, having owned several high-end kits. Sure they did not sound like my Star-classic kit, but they abide by the standards set by Tama. I have owned other drums that were several hundred dollars more than this one that did not sound as good. I would not only use this kit for gigging, but also in the studio. The bass drum is punchy, and the snare is tight. The toms, especially the floor tom, resonate wonderfully. The tom mounts give these drums a professional look and feel. The heads that come with the kit can use upgrading, but they work well for live play or rehearsal. These drums are worth every penny!
The Star-Cast mounts give the toms a professional look and feel.
Quality that beginner and professional drummers alike can appreciate.
The overall value of these drums makes you feel that you under paid for them!
Comments about Tama Rockstar 5-Piece Shell Pack:
I have been drumming for about ten years now. I had to recently sell my electronic kit to afford to move into a house. After a few months, I quickly missed being able to play, so I opted to buy a good, really cheap set that I could use to keep up with my chops. A few weeks ago, I saw that this shell pack on sale and had to get it. I had always wanted a rockstar set when they were popular. I think the shells used to be made with Phillipine Mahogany, but know they are a birch/basswood hybrid. The lugs and hoops are pretty much the cheapest that Tama has to offer, and I don't blame them. The set is so cheap, that it wouldn't make sense to use expensive lugs. They do the job, though, and the Star Cast mounting system is there. The heads are...stock heads, but the toms actually tuned quite well considering. The snare sounded surprisingly well. Much better than the snare that came with my old PDP FS series shell pack. The bass drum, I am unsure about so far. With the heads that it came with, I wasn't able to dial it down to a comfortable low with enough punch for my taste, so I am going to put an EMAD 2 and and EMAD reso on it and see what I can do with that. All in all, the sound is great. Tama can still make some decent sounding, really cheap drums. You can pretty much do no better in this price range. This is more than a decent first kit for you beginners, so if you are a parent out there looking to get your kids something awesome with decent quality to get them into drums, look no further. I will be playing on these for quite some time.
Comments about Tama Rockstar 5-Piece Shell Pack:
I love the Brushed Metallic Maroon color! The kit shows very well. Fit and finish is good, and it went together nicely. It's a great priced drum set, probably not recording quality, but a new opportunity to justify that........2nd kit?
I recieved my new Rockstar 'Brushed Maroon' set a couple of days ago. This is my 3rd Tama set, both of my other kits have been good to me, one is 11 yrs old. I could see the changes right away! Tama has cheapened the hardware! No more ''Star-Cast' mounting either. Hardware appears to be a copy of the Silverstar downgrades. Lugs are small ones now, instead of the old 'trademark' style. Hoops are considerably lighter and thinner, and cheaper looking badges too. Snare is a 13" as most ads list, but, mine came with a 16" x 14" floor tom, not 16" x 16" as stated. Finish on the wrap and chrome is all pretty good. The tom heads are a joke, but that's usually par for mid/lower priced kits. I haven't played it much, new heads will bring it alive! I'll report later on that. I will admit.....dressed out with stands, cymbals ect, it looks.......pretty darn good!
Many downgrades from last and past years Rockstars.....including all hardware! Still seems to be 'Tama Strong!'
It's a price leader. It's still a lot less cost than the Silverstar and Superstars series, and more features than Swingstar and Imperialstar. A great beginner or intermediate drum kit. It's a good deal and......it's still a Tama!
