More than adequate

By Mike Clancy 2112

from Staten Island, N.Y.

I had every intention of going for a DW set, until,by chance, I saw a sharp looking red setof Rockstars and decided to give them a try.I was shocked at how good they sounded. Toms gavea surprisingly good low end, as did the 22" bass.I did replace the snare however, as i prefera 7" maple. I changed the tom heads to pinstripeson the batters and ambassadors on the resonantsand clear Evans on the bass. The kit sounds great. With the money I saved I purchased an 8" and 10" tom and 2 16" zildjians!! Highly recommended.

I own my Tama "Rockstar custom" for the past seven years. I have recorded and played in live shows with them and in both situation I've always gotten good respond out of my them. Although I've experiment with different heads over the past years looking for a certain sound and tone, and finally I came across with the "Evans Ecs 2" for my toms, genera dry for both of my snares, and the Emad for my bass drum. Combining both elements (drums and heads) gave me the sound that I'am happy with. Over all, tama rockstar are good looking, sounding drums and built to last for a long time.

NICE JOB TAMA

By drumsforall

I played this set at a battle of the bands a few months ago, including stock heads and it rocked. For stock, the heads sounded nice, and it was easy to adjust right before we played. Perfect name, I think I might buy this.

Alright drums, pretty good price

I have my dad's old 1990 maroon Rockstar kit that I decided to start to use because I decided my Roland Electric kit would be too much of a hassle to bring to gigs, and in a lack of money for a better set, I decided to fix it up, because at the time it sounded terrible. So I bought a flourescent yellow wrap for it and took off the bass drum mount and covered the holes with the wrap and mounted my rack tom to my crash stand. This made it look contemporary. Then I changed the heads to high-end Evans heads and tuned them well, and got some Zildjian K custom cymbals. I also got new snare wires for the snare drum, because frankly, the snare drum on this kit sucks, and I'm still not too happy with it. The bass drum sounded alright with the Evans heads and an Evans bass drum muffling pillow. The toms tend to have a "wow" to them, unless you tune them acceptionally high, which doesn't sound too good.

Tama RS Kit

I got these in 2000 when I started high school. Since then, there has been a lot of modification to the kit. Overall the kit is great. The tom mounting system is fantastic, the kit is easy to set up exactly the same every time and after 8 years I have not had to replace 1 single tama part. For heads, I have went with Evans EC2 for recording and Remo Ebony Ambassador for live performance.I play about 70-80+ shows a year, plus practice time...so these see a lot of use. They are cased at all times when not played. As for modifications, I have put felt muffling strips on the toms (I prefer the beefy thumps), and filled the kick with polyester cotton-like fiber (sounds sweet) for some serious punch. I have also added a 18 inch floor tom to the kit and replaced the snare.

the rockstar rocks!

By mikey ramone-t-80z

I purchased a Tama Rockstar about 5 years ago and they are still holding up very well. These drums are very durable and can take a hard beating. I played tons of shows with them and they don't go out of tune that often. I'd replace the heads when you first get them. Just buy a set of Remo pinstripes and these things will sound great. The hardware is very durable and suitable for touring. I replaced the pedal that comes with the set with an Iron Cobra but it actually comes with a decent pedal. Great drums for beginners and I'm glad to see that Tama is producing the Rockstar again.

Tama ROCKStar

By Rock Star-MjNxA

from Florida

I have bought a Tama Rockstar kit in 2003 and can say that for that price, it is by far one(if not) the best kit out there. The only problem that I had was that the kit (out of the box) rings a little bit. So what I did was buy new remo pinstripe heads, the ring mufflers that you put underneath the tom heads, the snare rings and of course put an old blanket in the bass drum. All together it cost me an additional $100 but the sound is ammazing. I turn the tension all the way on the lugs and it still has a alot of low end(it makes it incredibly easy to tune). I use the CadPro7 mikes(the cheapest!) and it still sounds like a top of the line kit. The hardware is very sturdy, and hasn't failed me yet. The finish is surprisingly nice and they look awesome on stage even after 4 years of my abuse.

Awesome set

This set takes the cake. The 5/14 steel snare is great and responsive. With a powerstroke 3 head this baby will fly. The resonant stock heads are also cool. The toms are great and get a real deep sound. This set is the best for any level player.
