I own a full Tama Rockstar set and all the drums sound great. If you get this kick tuned just right it gives you minimal overtones and great punch. I have an Aquarian Superkick II as a batter. And a Remo Ebony head in the front. I used PDP pedals as well. with the gear that I used on it I was very satisfied with the overall sound and quality of the drum. This drum blends in perfectly with just about any style of music. It can cut through even the most vicious metal music. I recommend it to anyone looking for a great kick sound for a reasonable price.
Sure it's not a maple Star Classic, but you don't have to drop a g on it either. When you consider the cost, it's everything you could hope for. I put Evans hydraulic heads on both of mine and even my drummer buddies that have higher priced shells are impressed. I don't even have a pillow or any other dampening in mine. That says just as much about the hydro heads as the drum. :)~
