      Tama

A snare drum that offers a classic appearance with higher-grade materials for a full tone and quick response.

With upgraded hardware and powerful projection from a steel shell, the Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare is a far cry from a typical, add-on snare from a shell pack. This drum also has a wider tuning range and sounds great at the low or high end of the spectrum.

However, the innovations don't stop at the tone and appearance. Tama's work on identifying the ideal snare sound led them to develop the new hardware like the "Sound Arc" Hoops which add sustain and a fuller frequency response. Hearty brass tube lugs will ensure a long lifespan for your tension rods, as well as your tune. And finally, the Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Steel Snappy snares will emphasize needed punch and attack, as needed.

Comments about Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare Drum:

Rarely do I find a product good enough to write about but this snare justifies a review! I own black beauty, supraphonics and other high end snares to name a few and lately I thought Id try some of the lesser priced snares after purchasing a G Bubinga from the Tama SLP line. All of the SLP snares are underpriced in my opinion and beyond a great deal for what you pay. I purchased the vintage steel, looking for a classic rock sounding snare to accompany my 75 sonor kit and just received it. It was packaged perfectly and upon inspection I cant tell you how gorgeous this snare is. Simple and beautiful. I gave it a quick top and bottom tune and left the batter at the low/medium range. The first time I hit this snare I was floored at the tone! I couldn't believe how incredible it sounded. I honestly may sell my black beauty snares now and get another one of these. I now own 27 snare drums (I know its a lot) and this vintage steel is up in my top three to say the least. At 250.00 its absurd not to give this one a try. If you love that fat, metal snare tone this has it in spades!

Comments about Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare Drum:

This S.L.P. snare has a great sound once I put a remo ambassador head on it. I left the TAMA reso head on the bottom. It sounds good tuned low for a fat sound or higher for jazz. I especially like the snappy snares as they are not overly sensitive like the Puresound blaster line of snares. I like more drum, less snare wire on my snares, so that you can hear the drum oscillate without the snare wires choking the shell reverb. The Tama Hold tight washers do hold the tension rods from losening. The TAMA thow-offs are excellent compared to any similarly priced snares out there. They hold, not stretch the snares across the bottom reso head. The shell was nicely made without defects. All in all, TAMA snares are awesome. You cannot go wrong with a TAMA snare. I have 2 TAMA snares now and like both.

Comments about Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare Drum:

Tune it low, medium or high... It's covers just about every playing and musical style out there. Tama really recreated the classic steel sounds of the past but also made it modern as well. I really like the sound arc hoops, give it a nice crack when tuned high but do not choke the tone. Play it softly and it is still has a lot of presence, and warmth. Getting lots of great comments from band members as well as listeners. can't wait to get record with it.

Tama SLP Vintage Steel Snare Drum - a Winner!

              By Chris Bennett

              from California

Comments about Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare Drum:

Tuned low - it provides a fat, full snare sound reminiscent of rock recordings in the 60's and 70's. Tuned high - you get a fantastic crack. Punchy, yet very sensitive and articulate. This snare can do it all!
Features a 1.22 chrome over steel shell, brass tube lugs, sound arc hoops, incredibly smooth throw-off, 20 Strand Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Steel Snappy snare wires.
This snare has an excellent build quality. Nice and heavy - this baby has some weight to it!
In my view, $249 is a more than reasonable price. I would have expected to pay much more for a snare of this quality. Incredible value for money.
