Tama

Lightning fast with serious power.

Fastball Bearing

Based on the super accurate bearing used in PC hard drives, ABS systems in automobiles, and so on. This ultraprecise machined technology produces highly accurate revolving movement and high durability in even the toughest environment.

LiteSprocket

Tama adopted a true round-shaped "LiteSprocket" for a natural feel and smooth action. Compared with Iron Cobra's sprocket, this version decreases its weight by 40%. It revolves naturally and smoothly, providing a lighter feel.

Projector Beater

Specially designed for Speed Cobra to give the bass drum more sound projection and rich resonance. The convex shaped head focuses the power generated by the beater stroke's action to the smaller surface area. This angle gives you a more focused attack and punchy sonic penetration. Rotate the beater head for larger surface contact and get a fatter sound with extremely powerful volume.

Super Spring

The newly developed Super Spring needs less momentum in the beginning of pedal action. When the beater rebounds from the bass drum head, you can easily feel a quicker response, and by adjusting the Cobra Coil underneath the footboard you can acquire a smoother feel.

Features
  • Fastball Bearing
  • Lite Sprocket
  • Super Spring

The essential features of Tama's vaunted Iron Cobra, boiled down and engineered for blinding speed.

This review is coming from a fan of Tama for some 20+ years and an owner of an Iron Cobra for 10+ years. Tama has made and continues to make fantastic drums and insanely tough hardware. I never broke anything on any of my Tama equipment. I've owned my Speed Cobra since April 2013 and the pedal never left the house. In fact, I never even changed the factory settings on anything except the beater height, as they played great right out of the box. I practice progressive speed punk/metal about an hour a day on my 2Box kit. The spring broke from the master pedal in the middle of my regular practice. Really disappointed given Tama's reputation, the other reviews I've read reporting broken springs, and especially as I don't have a spare spring handy. Luckily I didn't liquidate my Iron Cobras which have never failed me, so they're back on the kit. And to top it off, I couldn't even find the HP910-7S on MusiciansFriend.com. Poop! OK, I'm done whining. Good pedals though, and definitely an upgrade from my Iron Cobras, but buyer beware! \m/

I bought a Double Speed Cobra after trying one out in a shop that was set up on a Roland V-Drums kit. The feel and balance was extremely smooth and the quality of construction seemed to be very high. It impressed me enough to go ahead and purchase one. The problem I had with it was not evident until I got them back home and started using them on my acoustic drum kit. The design of the Double Speed Cobra is such that it has the beaters striking the head unevenly centered on the drum. The main beater hits the drum in the center and the slave hits the head off to the left. The result is a different tone and feel from each beater. It's certsinly not what I would have expected from a high end double pedal. I feel like it's a design that should have been different and could have been easily made so that the attack and feel would be the same. I sold the Speed Cobra and went back to my Pearl Double Eliminator which I am still happy with. After all these years the Eliminator is still a very nice pedal, especially for the money, when most of the high end pedals are now going for $400-$600.

amazing smooth pedal. perfect for everything. the 1 minor flaw is that within 2 weeks of using this pedal I snapped both of the springs .. easily replaced with a standard tama replacement spring. no problems since. I have heard others say the stock springs do tend to snap

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Ive owned a few pedals in my time. Eliminators, Iron cobras and dw9000s.

A buddy of mine i toured with had gotten a brand new pair of these sent to a venue we were playing at "as back up's".
He let me use them for the rest of the tour due to my eliminators breaking. I absolutely fell in love with how these pedals felt. The pedalboard felt nice and they were easy to set up and adjust. However, 2 shows into playing with them. The right beaters and cam assembly as a whole just became extremely loose. I could almost touch both beaters together. And the pedals itself would actually start to lose their feel.
For the buck? I would suggest them for a beginning player learning footwork. If you're looking for a pedal that will deliver top performance every night and withstand abuse, I would recommend Dw9000s. Of all pedals I've played, Those are my favorite.
With those, I would get some grip tape for the pedalboards.
But yeah, Hope this helps you guys out!

Went with this after spending a lot of time reading reviews and contemplating what pedal to go with. Price-wise I am glad I chose this one. It has alot of adjustability and is really smooth. It won't make you faster but it is alot easier to achieve faster speeds and better control than my other cheap PDP double bass pedal.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This pedal is built solid, but in my opinion it could've been design better.
Springs, cams, bearings, hinges have the same great feel of a cobra. Longer recessed footboard takes a little getting used to if you're not used to a longboard, but it gives more power and aids when you pull your feet back to play really fast 16ths.
The beaters have a strange balance/feel that I'm not used to from my old cobra, but they do pack a good punch!
My only real complaint is that you aren't able to make the beaters centered to the head if it is naturally clamped to the kick. When normally clamped, the right beater is centered, but the left is off to the left. If you play alot of double kick this puts a damper on speed and consistency, because you're getting less rebound off the head with the left than the right beater.
I've been a huge Tama fan for 11 years now, but this was kind of a disappointment. I had to modify the clamp so the beaters were centered to the head. I shouldn't have to do that to a "Pro-grade" piece of gear.

I bought this pedal with the intention of increasing my speed! (My previous pedal had been lagging and was starting to effect my live perfomance.) This pedal has not disappointed me at all!! The springs on the bottom of the pedal are really effective for increasing speed and the pedals are so smooth and comfortable on your feet. I definitely have noticed the difference in my speed and think you will too!

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I got this pedal after hearing about all the adjustments and settings with a low price tag. I must say that I love this pedal. It is smooth, light weight under the foot, and will keep up with you 100%. It won't make you faster, no pedal can only practice will. You can adjust the left beater over to the right to center it (Ignore the other reviewers that say it doesn't hit center because it does once you adjust it). Pedal height can be adjusted independently from the beater angle. So many more adjustments that are normally seen on higher priced pedals are on this gem. The only issue I found is that the felt beaters wear out way too quickly, though, not a big deal just get a different set of beaters to replace them.

Great Pedal. I was using a Sound Percussion pedal before that was pretty nice for how cheap it was, but this thing blows it away in every aspect. My speed / control increased immensely as soon as I started using the pedal. The first practice with it, our bass player commented on how precise I was playing without knowing I had switched yet.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra Double Bass Drum Pedal:

These pedals are great, i've tried many pedals like dw9000, iron cobra powerglide, Axis xl-2 longboards, pearl eliminators, pearl demons. These pedals are the best i've used. Tama really step it up and made these pedals very fast and durable. So many adjustmets just like the iron cobra. These are fast right out of the box and extremely smooth. hardly any effort to push down the pedal even if you crank the spring to max tension. The cobra coil plays a big part by returning the pedal to its origianl position and you can adjust it to softer or harder. the beats have more of a punchier sound and you can kinda flip the beater back so can get a flatter punch. These pedals have the power of a power glide and smoothness of a rolling glide. The longboard of this pedal is very nice as well you can place your foot almost at the end of the pedal towards the heel plate and get a powerful stroke, i played Axis xl-2s for a long while and they were great till i tried these. to me these seemed to be a little more smoother and lighter to play with. yeah Axis are fast but these are just as fast, and you get more adjustments out of it. their also cheaper. Tama Speed Cobra are the best pedals i've ever tried. I will never go back. Just because it's Tama doesn't mean you have to think twice on buying these. their better then you think. Tama did a great job on these pedals.

This pedal is smooth and will go as fast as the player can go, and has plenty of adjustments for me. This pedal is every bit as good as my Pearl Demon which costs alot more. Because of the way I play I'll have to replace the beaters which can only be used one way, soft felt balls, and don't have memory locks. I think most players will be satisfied with the beaters that come with it though.
