Just picked up this snare. Beautiful tone and sensitivity. Projects wonderfully with a wonderfully woody crack. Crafstmanship is impeccable... especially for a production product. Consider this one a serious contender in your search for a new snare. Also, this snare won a blind test for sound at the snare drum olympics in Nashville last year. The Tama beat many custom drums that are priced three to four times as much.

I meticulously set up and tuned this drum, the new center piece of my vintage Tama Superstar kit. First thoughts -- hmm this doesn't sound so great, maybe I need to adjust it or let it settle in. Last thoughts (2 months later) -- this drum sounds like garbage and I payed $$$ for it. Do yourself a favor - don't buy this drum.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I'm in a band who plays at parties and clubs. I have 7 snares...one is a rogers power-tone. This snare is tied with that Rogers. this snare is so powerful. I use a Pacific Drums FXR 4-piece in Tobacco fade and with this maple snare, it sounds even better. i love the strainers on both sides of the drum. It may seem a bit expensive, but theres no subsitute for quality. The Die Cast hoops are amazing. Cross-sticking is the best with this snare. I changed the head the minute i got it...ya its an evans head, but its still a stock head. I have no complaints about this snare. If you want quality, get this snare drum.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

This snare drum is an amazing drum. I have used it in performances for classical orchestral music and in heavy metal performances. The diversity of this drum just based off of tuning is amazing. The price is a little steep but its worth every penny.

Tama rules the roost

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

Tama sets new standards with quality drums like these, although I personally prefer the sound of the standard Starclassic maple w. Rings, for straight up power in a wood shell drum, this can't be beat. DW is now offering (as an option) the steeper cut bearing edges this drum features. No other wood shell drum offers the fat, high-pitch cut this drum delivers - - Perfect for hard rock.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I recently bought a used Starclassic Maple 5-piece and this snare matches the kit perfectly in tone, aesthetics, and build quality! These drums are all handmade as far as my understanding goes, and it even has the signature of the craftsman on the inside. This is a beautiful drum! It sounds perfect tuned high, medium high, and medium-low! I haven't tuned it to anything else yet, but I will experiment greatly in the future. I have absolutely no negative comments about this drum. I use it mostly at high tuning and it sounds perfect! I do a lot of ghost notes and I'm a decently hard hitter and it takes me everywhere I need to go. I even have a beat up old Remo Controlled Sound on it (will replace it with an Evans Power Center as I've heard that they pair very well) and it still sounds amazing. It is the best snare I've ever played/heard, and I've played/heard a LOT of snares.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I have owned and played a LOT of snare drums, Pearl, Ludwig, Sonor, Mapex, Tama, etc etc. I have also played on snares that ranged from 1500-2000 dollars. This snare is now my favorite. I have fallen in love with the sound of this snare. Deep woody crack with incredible response. I am very impressed.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

When I first received this snare I didn't like it very much at all. Then I realized that I had never owned a snare with 12 plies of hard rock maple and bearing edges steep enough to cut yourself on. I was trying to tune this drum way too high. If you buy this do yourself a favor and try tuning it down a little lower than you would normally tension another drum and hear the power from this thing. Also, you can't beat the nickle plated die cast rims for the ultimate rim clicks. Big sound, great drum.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I got this snare last December in Cherry Fade. For starters, it looks downright gorgeous, especially with the abalone inlay. All hardware is excellent quality; I especially like the strainers. In my opinion, this snare was quite dificult to tune, as I had a very hard time getting a feel and tone that I both liked. As far as sound goes is its very good, but keep in mind its not flashy at all. If you're looking for a snare with a lot of crack and pop, look elsewhere. For warm and smooth tones, though, this snare is excellent. Just be sure to swap out the Evans head for something different.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I just integrated this snare into my Starclassic kit and I can't rave enough about it. It took a little primping and careful tuning along with a texture coated Aquarian head, but this is everything I had hoped it would be. I now use my expensive DW snare as a backup to this awesome snare. It also looks just as incredible as it sounds! Kudos Tama!

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

I bought this years ago and have finally found that adding a Remo Coated on top and a 40 strand snare wires on the bottom really opened this sucker up some more. I really want to try Maple wood hoops on here at some point. It's a beautiful and heavy drum with a great tone.

I bought this snare two weeks ago and i've already fallen in love with it,i play had rock and this snare sounds awesome alot of crack but at the same time has a thick sound to it due to the 13 plys of maple. defintely one of the best snares i own since i already use a lars diamond plated steel and a 5x14 ultracast that's saying something. awesome drum,i highly reccomend it.

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

i just got myself a new set of Starclassic Performer BB Dark Mocha Fade Shells. I figured I am already in the poorhouse so I might as well order the snare to go with the set. Everything, and I mean everything about this drum is first class, I will not repeat all of the praise that has already been bestowed on these beauties. Let me just say that the sound is as sharp as a German Scalpel, and clean as the air near the top of the Rockies. If you got the cash, most defintly pick one of these up, but don't forget to do your homework when shopping around. Good luck!

    GREAT SNARE DRUM

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Tama Starclassic G-Maple 6" x 14" Snare Drum:

This snare drum when I first got it wasn't sounding too good. I found that you have to tune the top head down and tighten up the bottom one for a nice punchy sound. This snare now has a really good sound and the rim shots are unbeilvable. I would really recommend this to anybody who is looking for a really nice maple snare drum and who is willing to pay a deccent price for it. I think this snare drum compares to some DW snare drums.
