Focused attack of birch paired with rich lows that only bubinga delivers.
This Tama Starclassic Performer B/B EFX is a 6-piece drum shell pack that provides sweet and deep hybrid tone, exhibiting the focused attack of birch paired with the enhanced lows of bubinga.
This Tama shell pack includes a 22" x 18" kick drum, 8" x 6", 10" x 6.5" and 12" x 7" toms, and 14" x 12" and 16" x 14" floor toms. The tom shells are 6mm thick with four outer plies of birch, and 3 inner plies of bubinga. The kick drum shell is 8mm thick with five outer plies of birch, and three inner plies of bubinga. The MTH909 slideable tom-holder gives you nearly limitless setting flexibility.
The Tama Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro-drums. Now it has a more streamlined design, making it easier to position tom drums closer together. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and truer tonal vibration. Star-Cast is also now plated to match your drum's shell hardware.
Tama Starclassic Performer's completely redesigned tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2"). Simply loosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease.
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops is so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For the Starclassic Performer B/B, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple-flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs, and much more powerful rim shots.
Starclassic's claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.
Tama's MSB30 die-cast bass drum spur brackets hold the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.
Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better playing.
Evans drum heads are featured on all Tama Starclassic Performer drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

Comments about Tama Starclassic Performer B/B EFX Limited Edition 6-Piece Shell Pack:
I purchased this kit to replace my old Tama Rockstar Custom which had Philippine mahogany piles and a wrap finish. That was an amazing kit. Let's start with the good.
I really love the hyperdrive sizes throughout. This allows me to get my toms much lower to my bass and it freed up some space on my rack. I like the 8x6 tom in the place of where my old kit's 10x9 was and that allows me to not have my snare interfere with the toms. Now my snare does not whack the bass drum every once in awhile as well since the bass drum is also shorter. I do not strain as much on my arms when I roll through a tom hitting spree. I simply love these sizes. I love that the rubber feet are also much nicer and my kick does not move what so ever. Thats a big plus Tama. Much kudos. Also, the black nickel hardware is awesome and is much stronger than my previous Tama rockstar custom kit since it is die-cast. It looks really clean and the Starcast mounts are so easy to work with it that it drives me nuts that all drums are not like this in the first place. The sound is INCREDIBLE! It has focused punch, but delivers warmth when set up correctly. I used mainly my ears, then checked the final adjustments with a drum dial, then again by ear. WOW, simply an amazing raw sound. It reminds me of the original Tama Starclassic Maples that japan produced back in the good ol' days.
Now the bad...
I really hate the fact that this wrap is not flush! The wrap comes to a point where it over-laps itself about an inch. The notch towards the top of the shell where the wrap meets the head is cut like some sort of square notch at the top. I was really surprised by the lack of craftsmanship there. My old Tama Rockstar Custom which cost me a 1/4th of the price looks like it was painted on until you saw the flush wrap line. The wrap on this kit literally is an 1/8th of a inch off the shell and you can clearly see and feel it. that drives me nuts as a Tama purist. I wish I could have purchased a Tama Starclassic maple that was made in Japan but for the money and the sound, this wrap job can sit on the back burner. it is only cosmetic, and it does not affect the sound. Also, this kit in person has much more of a sparkle to it and is much more silver in regular lighting rather than white. I think the reason why the wrap is the way it is might be because of the way the wrap is made. it seems like glitter confetti in person. Not bad looking at all, especially with the black nickel hardware. Just thought I would point it out since the picture clearly seems white. I would have liked to see more color options as well.
Overall, this is an awesome kit for the money. After the initial setup which took me about three hours, this kit had me stand up and say "man I love this kit" and walk away. I was so excited to have a better sounding kit that allowed lower toms which sounded amazing. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars only because of the wrap overlap job.
