Birch and bubinga provide strong low-end presence.
The Starclassic Performer Birch/Bubinga EFX Series Shell Pack features birch-bubinga shells with a sweet and fat sound that has serious punch. These drums use the Star-Cast Mounting System and tom holder for maximum resonance and placement ease and stability. At every level, these meticulously crafted drums have been designed to allow you to express who you are.
By using bubinga wood for the inner layer of the birch shell, Tama has created another chapter in the Starclassic series. The hybrid tone exhibits the punchy attack and controlled overtones of birch paired with the enhanced lows of bubinga.
The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for Tama's pro drums. Now they've improved it. A new streamlined design makes it easier to position toms closer together for greater ease and comfort than ever before. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. The Star-Cast Mounting System is now plated to match your drum's shell hardware!
Performer's completely redesigned tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2 inches). Simply unloosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the tom toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease!
Hoops not only affect drum tuning, they also affect drum sound. That's why the choice of hoops was so important to the designers of Tama's professional drum lines. For Tama's Starclassic Performer birch/bubinga EFX, Tama chose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and much more powerful rim shots.
Starclassic's new claw hooks feature rubber spacers that help protect wood hoops from damage. The hooks and hoops work as one unit and won't separate or rattle, even on loose tunings.
Tama's MSB30 die-cast bass drum bracket holds the spur bracket securely, thanks to the same powerful hinge mechanism used on the MTB30 mounting bracket. Unique memory markers found on the folding spur bracket help simplify set up.
Starclassic's Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber, that eliminates the transfer of vibrations to the floor (which chokes sustain and sound) and absorbs shock for better playing.
Evans drumheads are featured on all Starclassic Performer birch/bubinga EFX drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

THIS KIT IS UNBELIEVABLE!I have owned most brands of kits from Gretch, Pearl, Tama, DW, Pacific, Slingerland, Purecussion, Ayotte, Mapex and I just got the Tama B/B and I must admit this is one of the most unique sounding kits that I have ever owned. I currently play Ayotte Maples as my primary set and I was looking for an alternative sound and the Tama B/B are all of that. I have the 10", 12", 14" and 22" Bass and they sound very very nice! My choice for combination of heads is Evans Resonant on the bottoms and Evans EC 2 Clear on the batter and I after put this combination on the Tama B/B I heard resonance that comes from this kit like no other drums I have owned or played. Also, I have the Colbalt Blue finish which is visually memorizing! I think you should purchase this kit before Tama realize what they have and raise the price of the kit like Pacific did with the X-7 drum kit. My Ayotte's cost over 3K for a custom Maple kit and this set cost half of that and sounds PHENOMENAL! You do the math!
This is as close as you will get to one of those DW maple kits only its 3,000 bucks cheaper. I played them right next to each other at a guitar center in manhattan, and the sound quality was not all that different. The toms are rich, deep, warm, and open sounding. As for the kick drum, every time you hit it it feels like taking a shotgun blast to the chest. The hardware is very sturdy, easy to adjust, and very badass looking. I gotta hear this thing with an Emad on the kick and remo emperors on the toms. It would be a machine.I plan on buying this ASAP so I can use it to record. It's really gonna bring the tracks to life =)
I've just bought these drums and as soon as I played them I fell in love with them! The shells offer just the right amount of resonation and sustain needed to fit mine or anybody's style of playing. The mounting hardware are a plus also made out of nickel makes it easy to mount toms very easy also. I've been a drummer for over ten years and I've played different style of drums from Ludwig to Yamaha and these to me are by far the best sounding drums I've ever played.
I have a four piece version of this kit with a 24in bass drum. And they are the best sounding kit I have ever played. Live and recorded the bass drum sounds huge and the toms have a wonderful low end, but still have plenty of punch to cut through. My kit is the lava glass wrap and they look unbelievable under stage lights. By far the best deal on a quality kit around. BUY THIS KIT!!!
I just bought this kit the 4 pc Cobalt Blue Glass, looks more like a Wine Purple than Blue. But my girlfreind who does not play drums, said they sounded great, loud, warm, low end. I have a starclassic birch in with a 16 floor and this kits sounds better. I compared them next to a DW I was going to by, and I tell you, we both had a hard time deciding which ones to get..DW's are great but way overpriced..and that's the truth..for my money the Starclassic BB gives you the best of birch, maple, african mahogony all in one..
I have this kit in Shattered Turquoise with the 20" bass drum, 12" mounted, and 14" and 16" floor toms. It's the best kit I've ever had, regardless of price. Initially, I found the toms hard to tune with the Evans Genera G2s, so I recently replaced those with Remo Emperor Coateds, and that has made a huge difference in bringing out the warmth of the bubinga. I also put an Aquarian Super Kick I on the bass drum, which has really brought out the low tones. The kit sounds and looks great and is flawlessly put together. Plus, with the smaller bass drum and shallower toms, it's easy to carry around to rehearsals and gigs.
i got the 20" bd one its is amazeing its the best kit i have ever played it fell into tune so easly and the bass drum has such a low sound and the kit has some of the strongest looking hardware i have ever seen it just a all around great kit have no second gueses about buying it u WILL love it!
