One incredible-sounding snare.

Tama's Starphonic Cordia snare drum produces a solid sound that features full projection with rich, resonant tone, combined with fine, crisp snare response. In order to achieve this new sound, Tama developed a concept that incorporates entirely different hoop, lug, and strainer designs, married to a variety of uniquely constructed drum shells.

A symphony of sound springs to life from this Tama snare drum, thanks to a combination of unique special features: naturally resonant shell materials, Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare wires, and a special Grooved Hoop for a totally sharp but open sound.

Comments about Tama Starphonic Snare Drum:

The photo's of this drum do not do it justice. The wood just blew me away when I unpacked it. It tuned up in five minutes flat and is one of the warmest, full bodied snare drums that I have ever played. A killer phat whomp (if thats a word), with just the right amount of sustain without the annoying overtones. Incredibly well engineered. The other Starphonic's are just as good just different sounding. These drums are right up there with my Black Beauties, Dunnetts, Rogers and Slingerlands. I'm impressed...Great job Tama! For all you young drummers out there, these new Tama Starphonics represent the state of the art in drums for a very reasonable price. I am a professional drummer and own over 20 high dollar snare drums and these Starphonics are in the same ballpark for way less cash. If you can find one on sale thats even better... get one.

Comments about Tama Starphonic Snare Drum:

I have been fortunate enough to have owned & played some of the Great high end Snares: Ludwig Blk Beauty & Supraphonics,DW Collector's, Pearl Reference Pure, Dunnett, Yamaha Super Sensitive,Custom Absolutes, Anton Fig signature etc... All great snares ... All very expensive some more than others.. But this one is special. It just possesses a great combination of impeccable craftsmanship , Top-Notch aesthetic & sonic quality and cutting edge features, Trademark sounds & feel of this snare are Sensitivity, great articulation, loud crack on demand, INTENSE rim-shots and very organically warm..One of the loudest wood snares I have ever heard..Go Bubinga!! Used this recently at a outdoor gig 200 to 300 people , normally would go with a metal snare: brass, steel etc..but was not disappointed.. this bubinga wood snare has plenty of volume and can cut through any guitar mix without sacrificing that organic sonic beauty of the wood..
I love the Grooved hoops , lugs , & dual adjustable snare strainer!! Very functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Top Notch !! Lexus of Snares Drums..
Great value relatively speaking for high end snares...

Comments about Tama Starphonic Snare Drum:

This snare drum is extremely versatile. Great tone and snare response. (I put Remo Ambassador X coated head on the batter and Remo Hazy Ambassador snare head on the reso.) It's loud enough to cut through just about any mix, and sensitive enough to play at very low volume. The snares are very sensitive too... very nice with buzz rolls. Ghost notes pick up great, no matter how nuanced. Whether I'm playing jazz, funk, latin, classic rock, etc... this drum does it all very well. Best, most versatile snare drum I've ever played. I highly recommend it!
