      Tama

Designed to sonically replicate the sound of Stewart Copeland's snare used on all those Police hits.

The Stewart Copeland snare drum, a Tama signature model, is a faithful reproduction of the snare drum of "mysterious provenance" that Stewart used with the Police and everything else from that time period. This Copeland snare sound easily penetrates what he describes as "the dirge from the bass and the ear-piecing sounds of a guitar." That penetrating sound is the result of combining a die-cast batter hoop and a triple-flanged bottom hoop with a brass shell that is 0.5mm thicker than the standard 1mm shell.

In trying to replicate Stewart Copeland's snare drum on which he recorded all those Police hits, Tama measured the diameter and all of the specs until it came down to metallurgy--the mixture of metals metals. After many prototypes, Tama matched the sound of Copeland's original and set up production to duplicate it consistently. Now you can capture that punchy, piercing sound in your kit.

      Stewart Copeland signature snare brilliance

      By Yona71

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

This is the best snare drum I've played in my 32 years as a percussionist. My older brother blasted The Police when I was a six year old, and Stewart Copeland's dynamic playing got me going. When I found out this was snare drum available, I knew this would be the one to have and play. This snare has that magical crack which will cut through anything, and rims that have a sharp sound due to the solid brass and die-cast construction.I recommend this snare to players of all styles of music. Just be sure to crank the resonant and batter skins as tight as they will go if you want to get the most out of the sound of this "bad boy". Cheers

      Good sound and good value

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

I have owned this snare for a week. First my snare actually has an adjustment knob on both sides of the snare, whereas the picture on this site doesn't have it. I don't find the plastic to be flimsy. I can't tell whether the plastic is a covering on top of metal or if is entirely plastic but its not really an issue for me. The throw off is a little weird in that you have to use a full motion to engage/disengage the snare. Whereas on my Pearl MCX the snares basically drop all the way down as soon as I press down on it. I can't say whether it is a good or bad thing. Tama must do this for a reason, possible to avoid rattles, although my Pearl snare doesn't rattle at all. The tuning seems fairly easy except on the bottom lugs near the snare wires. It just seems I have to tighten those lugs more. The snare does have a really nice heavy crack. Not suprising though is the sound if not that fat. Also, the snare is not that sensitive at very low volumes. What I mean is if you gently tap the snare I don't hear any snare sound at all; it basically sounds like a tom. On the other hand with a little more striking force the snare comes to life. I am not sure if this is common trait of metal snares since this is the only metal snare I have. Overall I like this snare especially at this price point.

      Awesome Snare

      By EL Batista

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

I bought this snare primarily based on the reviews I read. All were correct it sounds and looks magnificent. I think it's a great value and love the way it sounds. My only surprise/disappointment was the on/off lever for the snares. It's made out of plastic and seems to be on the flimsy side. In order to turn the snares off, you have to completely push the lever all the way down. It's like buying a top of the line vehicle to find the door locks, switches etc. are made of plastic.

      A little slice of heaven...

      By Anonymous

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

What a beauty! Either play this snare or put it in a glass emplacement and just stare at it. This is a snappy snare with amazing echoing rimshots. This drum has tension adjustment on either side which will change your sound dramatically from a sharp pop (with some head tightening) to... whatever you need. I gave the "features" a 4.5 only because I'm not sure what else you'd need. The top rim is not curved just a solid, smooth metal edge which seems to cause these amazing rimshots. Of course, like any TAMA product, it looks amazing as well. It's got some weight to it and has solid lugs attached with care and it's shiny as can be. I splurged on this snare for sure, but if you want satisfaction and long-term durablity go for this. And by the way, it does sound exactly like Stuart's famous "The Police" snare drum depending on how you adjust it. Get it!

A great snare for the price with excellent ghosts in the machine and rimshots from the moon. Play it and you will see!

...the ?pop? of piccolo, sensitivity and warmness

      By Konrad-WzxgC

      from Al Ain, UAE

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

It all started with my fascination of Steward?s technique and sound. Yet, honestly, I was not looking for a copy of his pitch. Somehow, I felt that this drum with his name on, could not suck. This snare gives the ?pop? of piccolo, sensitivity and warmness (although it is a brass snare) that I have been always looking for! It cuts great thought my crash cymbals, loud guitar amps and all other noises. I can recommend this snare to any musician of any drumming style. I only changed the top head with the Remo Coated Controlled Sound.

      Good for any occasion

      By Denny-NfvuA

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

Stewart Copeland was the drummer who inspired me to play. I'm glad to say that his signature snare lives up to his reputation. I can play this drum in the most raucous rock show and turn around and use it on a jazz gig the next night. It is very dynamically sensitive, letting the musician decide what should cut through and what shouldn't. I highly, highly recommend this drum. It is WELL worth the money.

      Tight

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

This snare is the first I ever bought. After some tuning, the snare sounded amazing. It is tuned really tight so it has a great pop and the pop doesn't sustain so it's got a nice compact punch. For a snare like this, there is no annoying ping sound. Flams sound incredible. Makes me actually want to play on a 30 yr old kit.

      Great snare

      By TCB

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

I've been really happy with this snare, having used one for the last several month. The finish is excellent, and the sound is just as promised--powerful and sensitive at the same time. Good for lots of different types of music. It's a heavy snare, and it can take a bit of banging around (trust me on that one). I've tried a number of different heads on it, but my favorite is still the Weather King Ambassador which came with it, which leaves just enough (but not too much) of the ring that I like. Highly recommended.

      Quality Snare

      By Lewis Mudford

      from United Kingdom

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

Firstly I was pleased with the amount of clarity the snare delivers with playing ghost notes, flams etc it picks up on everything so its very clear cutting when playing with your band mates. Higher rim makes it a bit easier playing those rim shots and it definatly delivers that "copeland" sound.
