OVERVIEW

This Tama X-Hat Attachment is ideal for double-bass playing. The tension adjustment knob makes it possible to finely adjust the degree to which the hi-hat cymbals open. The angle of the bottom cymbal is also adjustable, which allows for subtle adjustment of the sound of a closed or half-open hi-hat by changing how air escapes with each hit.

This Tama X-Hat Attachment includes the toothless Quick-Set Tilter. The component securely holds its position using the friction of 6 metal disc plates instead of traditional gears, so you can adjust it to any desired angle. This mechanism also has a more durable structure than a conventional gear tilter.

Finely adjust your hi-hats like never before.

FEATURES
  • Hardware specially made for double-bass setups
  • Tension adjustment knob allows fine adjustment of open cymbal proximity
  • Adjustable bottom cymbal angle

      Comments about Tama X-hat Attachment:

I have two drum sets. Seems like many drummers I know have several. I have a Yamaha Maple custom absolute with 2 24" kicks. My other kit is a special order kit from Tama in smaller sizes with two 22X16 kicks. For years I always enjoyed the Yamaha closed hihat mount attachment. I still do. It is nice and rigid and solid. It even has a wheel adjustment so I can make the hihats sound more splashy or tighter at the quick touch of a wheel. One problem with the Yamaha version though is that the wheel will travel a tad while playing figures on it so you need to keep your eye/ear on it. Tommy Aldridge uses this model and I asked him at a clinic of his if he had the same problem and he said yes and that he sticks a piece of duct tape on the wheel to prevent this. Well for my Tama kit I bought the hihat mount that is about ten ducks cheaper than this, the one with the quick release on the top. It works very well, however there is the slight lack of adjustment for a given tone or splash. You can set that up by adjusting the amount of force you apply setting the top hat down when tightening it up for playing. But I went with this newer Tama version that has a clutch so this way I can set it down and slightly raise it up just a few thousands by ear and then tighten on clutch on the rod like a regular hihat. This will give me a bit more control for the effect of tone. But the bottom hat will just sit there so when you strike it it is not as solid or rigid as the Yamaha. Not a big deal. The Yamaha I like a lot because the bottom hat literally ends up being screwed on and the top hat is then placed down and adjusted. Both are solidly fixed. What I like is how rigid it is when you strike it. This Tama version though is very nice. Both of them are. I mainly use this on my right side for some open hand playing next to my ride.

      What an x-hat should be

        Comments about Tama X-hat Attachment:

Ths is what an x-hat should be and does its job well.

This is a sturdy piece of hardware that lives up to the Tama name (which I consider to be a leader in hardware along with Gibraltar). This seems to be the only true x-hat attachment on the market today and basically resembles a standard high-hat base and clutch mechanism.

It does not have a quick release like some of the older Tama x-hats, but that wasn't important for me since I don't need that variation.

The only thing that I don't like about this is the clamp it comes with. Granted, it is an awesome clamp, one that most drummers will be perfectly happy with, but since I'm mounting this on a rack, I needed to purchase an additional ratchet arm to connect it into the rack clamp. Of course I could have just attached it to a nearly cymbal arm, but that kind of defeats the purpose and adjustability of a rack.

So maybe either offering some customization with options (for example, buy with a speed clamp or buy with a ratchet arm, or sell it without either) would be nice.

Hoping I can sell the clamp to offset some of the expense.
