This drum redefined my trio's sound! I was looking for a compact snare drum to build a percussion set around, and this is it. If you play it with brushes you'll get a great snare sound, while being able to control the amount of jingle. You WILL NOT be happy with the sound of this drum if you play it with regular drum sticks. If I want a harder, louder sound, I'll use my rubber tipped steel drum mallets. If you need a small snare to compliment acoustic or light electric music, get this item and combine it with a few percussion toys, small crash, and a floor tom, and you'll be in business... I highly recommend this item. And the mount is high quality... will even allow you to mount another item on top the snare.
Matches my Gretsch Catalina Jazz Satin Natural drum set to a tea. I am always looking for ways to put together smaller kits for light jam sessions. This snare is ab-so-lutely per-fect. Sound quality is pretty amazing for it's size. The jingles add a subtle effect, not too much. Tuning range is remarkable. The real surprise to me was how good the cross-stick sounds. I thought the drum would be too small for a decent, full cross-stick sound, but it works fantastically. Mounting hardware is top notch, although it does "slip" a bit if you don't get it set up and angled just right. It takes some experimenting. The only thing I wish this had was a quick throw-off for the snare, but it doesn't, you have to loosen it till it no longer touches the head. But it's not a deal breaker by any means. This 10" snare is an excellent add on to any kit or as a stand alone drum.
