I got a Toca synergy djembe a couple years ago to pair with my bongo drums for acoustic outdoor jams and parties. The drum was solid black with an awesome geometric design along the bottom. First of all, these drums are tunable. And the rope tuning works very well, and is also kind of fun to do. The sound of this drum is great for the price, and I can get a range of lows and highs on this drum head that not even my low or high bongos can match. By slapping, muting, tapping, popping, and rapping on this thing you can produce literally dozens of sounds on a single drum. My only prob with the drum is a crack has appeard coming up along from the base of the drum, but the wood is so thick and the crack so thin that A) it cant spread and B) it makes no diff to the sound whatsoever. What a great value. Get one if you're curious about world drums.

The problem with Toca drums is that they are not tuned very well. I bought one and sent it back. When it comes to rope tuned Djembes it is really important that it is tuned. This drum sounded terrible. I ended up buying a Sageman drum and it sounded fantastic and the carving was amazing.

Great Drum for a hand made Djembe. Most I have played are not such good sound but this one 12" painted one not only sounds good but looks great as well. I now see they have African style ones to.I am glad a brand name product finaly is selling a good rope djembe because we can weed out all the grabage going around.
replacing the head would be difficult, but overall, great price, great sound, and excellent quality!
We Bought a Toca rope djembe 12 InchWow, what a big bass and wonderful high slap. Just needed to tune it a bit, as the mali weave was already started we just added a few diamonds.I would recommend this drum over all other rope Djembes on the web.
Just got mine. Not a hand carved masterpiece from the Motherland, but a high quality instrument nonetheless. The overall look and feel is mass production, but it sounds great. I definitely would not call it a "cheap copy of fine traditional instruments." Nicer ones are out there, but this is a very good starter model. It will last a long time. (Just like my Toca bongos.)
This drum is the best djembe I've ever played. It has an authentic sound and crsip on the edges. I also like the carvings on the base. For any percussionist i recommend this drum.
this was the best choice i could've made for choosing my first djembe. it doesn't have that synthetic sound to it and there's a variety of sounds you can get out of it. if you like hand drumming, this is a great choice for your first one. affordable and satisfying. two thumbs up.
I bought this Djembe looking for a good drum to add some percussion to my studio tracks. Not knowing anything about drums, I bought this one and I am very pleased. I have played a few other Djembes and I still like mine better. There is a nice tight bass and an overall solid, smooth sound. It is a great first drum for me!
I own the 10" djembe. It sounds great for a small djembe. It's the best 10" djembe I've ever played. It's got great tone, nice bass, and nice high sounds. You can really make this drum "talk." It's a great djembe for an incredible price.
Bought a 12" Toca Djembe and was very Impressed with the big sound. Most Hand Made Djembes do nothave great sound unless you change the rope and head but the Toca ws great bass and Slap out of the Box. I would recomend them even for a Pro.
I have always loved Toca. My friend has a Toca djembe and it is amazing. I would imagine they basically all the models sound similar they just have different designs in the carving. One review stated that they returned it because it was not tuned, well: TUNE IT. true, they dont sound good if they are not in tune, but NO DRUMS sound good when they are not in tune. So just tune it. this is an all around good djembe, buy it!
