I use the X5AN for a few reasons. Once, i believe that nylon sticks attack the cymbal better and produce a better sound (when on at bar gigs, smaller venues, not a lot of mics on the kit). The reason for the "X" is because I tend to sit far back from the snare and the rest of the kit so any additional length is much appreciated.
If you are a heavy hitter, i would suggest either the 55A/ X55a (NEW) or the 5B/X5B either wood or nylon tip!
My personal favorite stick is the X55A! it gives you that same sound, but a little more umph!
Vic Firth does make the "Best" sticks on the market (my opinion) I love Vic Firth sticks and I will not play any other brand!

These sticks aren't very durable. I had them for a day and I went through a pair already. I don't know if it's me or the sticks but if your thinking about buying these sticks don't. I hit my cymbals alot and they snap right in half.

I bought these sticks for my son as a Christmas gift, he's a drummer by profession. He told me that he would be ordering these again because he was very pleased. The thing that impressed me the most was the help I received when ordering. The ones I originally wanted were backordered- so the salesgirl put me on hold to locate another salesperson who is a drummer,he recommended a different pair that turned out to be perfect. So, not only would my son recommend these particular sticks, I am so pleased with the help I received while ordering! Thank you MF

I love these sticks. I got the X5BN and the sound, especially on the snare, have improved 10x! So comfortable and the length gives a better reach to my ride and my 14" crash. And i can shift over on the toms easier and smoother. Well worth the price!
