I tried these a while back and was a little disappointed because the tips chipped out almost immediately. After trying out a few more models close to these, I decided to try them again. This is a good middle of the road stick that is suited well for some Jazz contexts,Big Band and Rock. However, I would not use these for Small Combo Jazz work or extremely heavy Rock. They are just a touch too heavy for small group settings and too light for heavy playing. They are essentially a long 5A with white paint.Balance is very good and they seem to be holding up well this time around.

Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
I only wish they sold this kind of drumstick in a non signature format, because then I could get it cheaper. This drumstick is like the 5A except a little longer. It is not awkward however. It is very good for doing 16ths on the hat and ride because it is very snappy in your wrist. Unfortunately I don't get to use them when playing live because they are to loud and overpower the band. If you want the same idea but smaller and quieter, go with the Vic Firth SD4 Combo stick.
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
If I was a famous drummer and had an opportunity to be endorsed and make my own signature stick that's perfect for me, I would have to decline because it already exists. The diameter is perfect. Not too skinny, but not too fat. You get a great balance so it feels great and is very agile. The length is also perfect. It's a little longer than most to give an extra reach for everything. Although they're from a jazz artist, these sticks are pretty durable. I'm a pretty dynamic player, but when I hit hard, I hit HARD. Occasionally I'll get one that breaks pretty fast, but it's bound to happen and it's happened with every type of stick I've ever used. I can whip around the set easily, put a hurting on the drums with them, get a great sound on the cymbals and drums from the acorn style, wood tip which I think is perfect for heads and cymbals. I also really, really love the white color of the stick. In the right lighting it adds an awesome tracer effect. If I'm not mistaken, that's the reason Thomas Lang likes white sticks. Anyways, these sticks are awesome. The perfect stick. Go get them!
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
I play worship drumming for my church on both an electric and acoustic set (depends on which service). And i must say, these are the best. They're quick, responsive, and full of driving feel on the acoustic. And FAST, agile, and mobile on the Alesis electric. Never played with anything better in my 6 years of playing.
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
I bought these for the first time about 2 months ago. They are sick. I play fast street punk and these guys take a beating without comprimising any quality what-so-ever.
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
I bought these a few days ago and they are amazing!!! They are good for ANY style. They are slightly heavier and longer they feel like a 5a with a 5b heaviness! Great sticks buy them!
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
I tried these sticks during a Jazz concert for my high school and noticed how great these perform. They compliment the wrists very well and fit into the fingers naturally. They have a light, brisk sound on the ride cymbal and striking tone on the snare.
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
These sticks are the best you can buy if your a Jazz/Soul/Funk/Reggae drummer...pretty much anything but rock! I only say that because they are 5A's so they are thin so heavy playing wears them down a lot. But the Reach is Key, a longer stick in my opinion is easier to use. Jack is the Man!!
Comments about Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signature Drumsticks:
These along with the Vic Firth Extreme 5A's are my favorite drum sticks. The extra reach is great and you can move fast with these. Not just for fusion & jazz, I play pop/R&B with them a lot. The only thing I don't like is the annoying white paint that comes off if you hit the rims too much. Overall, recommended if you are looking for a stick with extra reach. Slightly heavier/thicker than the X5As.
