Wuhan

An affordable crash made from the same B20 alloy as many high-end cymbals.

The small sizes and medium-thin weight of these Wuhan crash provide an excellent balance of quick, explosive response and rapid decay. This balance of characteristics makes them perfect for adding crisp accents to musical passages.

The best crash cymbals money can buy? No.
The best crash cymbals so little money can buy? Absolutely.

Wuhan cymbals don't presume to challenge the sound quality, variety, or reputations of the fine professional-level cymbals on today's market. But when it comes to being affordable, that's another story.

Generally, "affordable" cymbals are made of less-expensive sheet alloys, using shortcut manufacturing methods and finishing steps in order to keep the cost down. With the resulting cymbals, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Wuhan cymbals are made of high-quality, cast B20 alloy. Handcrafted in China according to two-thousand-year-old traditional methods, this crash cymbal is buffed to a brilliant finish, and stamped with an unobtrusive but attractive logo.

Features

  • Medium-thin weight

An affordable, good-sounding alternative crash.

I started with one 16 inch crash on my kit as an inexpensive way to replace one of my crashes that had broken. At first the cymbal was really oriental sounding and almost turned me off. I stuck with it though and im glad i did because as soon as you break these cymbals in you will not find a better sounding cymbal for the price. I now play on 14 Wuhan Hats, 2 16 inch Crashes and the 20 inch Wuhan Ride. I am amazed how great these very affordable cymbals are. Also they are made out of B20 material like the Xs20 Sabian series but for a cheaper price. They are hand hammered, lathed and buffed so each cymbal has a unique sound making them all unique. I highly recomend these cymbals for anyone starting out or intermediate players looking for a new sound that will keep you wallet and ears happy.

Wuhan NT 16" Crash

| Review By: Lou Avila | 3 months, 1 hour ago

Features:

Received cymbal for Christmas, brilliant shine, looks sharp.

Quality:

Great so far, had just over a month. Time will tell on how it holds up, but from the looks of it and how it play, I', optimistic it will.

Value:

This price for B20 bronze HH cymbal. Enough said.

Overall:

I am completely pleased with my purchase, it sounds better than I ever expected. Needed crash to the right of my kit but did not want to spend a fortune.  Did countless side by side comparisons with the wuhan and the big 3 and  if you listen closely with exact size cymbals that were HH and med  thin, it was negligible. No HH is the same anyway. Mounted the cymbal  and started playing and wow was I surprised. It sounds terrific, just  what I needed. My expectations were exceeded ten fold. I find myself  going to the cymbal often whereas I rarely went to the cymbal I had  there before (18" zildjian, I've had it over 30 years-great cymbal just  did not fit my needs). The Wuhan mixes nicely with my other cymbals  (Sabian AA and AAX's) and for the price you can't go wrong. B20 bronze and  HH, again, I was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds.

Wuhan 14 Inch Crash

| Review By: Publanski | 3 months, 1 week ago

1 people out of 1 found this review helpful

Features:

It's a crash symbol, so there aren't many features.  OK, there aren't any features

Quality:

I've got a full set of top of the line vintage Zildjians that I aquired years ago in college from a jazz drummer who was leaving town and needed some cash.  In no way does the Wuhan crash compare to these.  The Wuhan sound is much trashier and and quite a bit duller, but that doesn't mean it's not an excellent crash symbol, especially for the money.  New, the Zildjians would cost at least five or six times as much, so you would expect them to sound better.  Since the Wuhan is made of the same material and is the same color, it fits right in with the Zildjians.  Obviously, it's not top of the line, but it still sounds great.  I can't speak for the other sizes, but the 14 inch crash is great.

Value:

Like I said, top of the line Zidjians would cost WAY more.  The price is more than fair.  I've only had it a couple of weeks, though, so I can't speak for it's durability.  It looks and plays like it will last, though.  Probably the best buy for your money out there.

Overall:

This would be a Consumer Reports best buy if they did crash symbols.  Not on par with the best cymbols out there, but, for the money, a fantastic sounding crash cymbol.  I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.  If it lasts more than a year (I play almost every day), I'll feel like I've got my money's worth out of it and would probably buy a replacement.

Overall:

I purchased 2 16 inch crashes and a 14 inch crash after I had purchased the 18 inch crash/ride and was fairly pleased with the performance of the 18 crash. I am very familiar with Wuhan cymbals having used their splashes and chinas for several years with complete satisfaction. These cymbals sound much darker and are not as explosive as many cymbals available today.  I don't necessarily believe these cymbals are cheap, less expensive yes, but not cheap. I think the gong-like undertones and washy characteristics of these cymbals will turn many players off. I feel that these are very musical cymbals. Compared to my Sabian Pro's and Paiste PST5's I feel the Wuhans have more personality to them. If you're looking for something different to add to your existing cymbal line-up I'd suggest trying one of these cymbals. They just might surprise you.
