Comments about Yamaha 2013 Stage Custom Birch Bass Drum:

I have owned several different brands over the years Ludwig, Slingerland, Gretsch, etc... I couldn't find a kit with the sizes I wanted. so I had to build it.Yamaha offered the sizes and color(natural wood)Awesome gloss, high luster finish, unbelievable how pretty they are(I know I said pretty; but they are!!!) Oh yeah, the sound; KA-BOOOM !!!I mean Big, Big Sound, the stock heads are kinda flabby with lots of overring, I threw in a small pillow, problem solved until I get my Emad II. That said this is the best bass drum I've had ever! and it's 2 days old. It's just going to get better with age.Stage Custom Birch has plenty of projection and the 24" really moves some big air!! You need to hear it to believe it. 150% satisfied!!!

Comments about Yamaha 2013 Stage Custom Birch Bass Drum:

This is to back up my previous review(the best).Just got my e-mad head a couple weeks ago installed it and put a 4" port in the resonant head, OH MY GOD!!!! the power is amazing, the low frequency response is to die for, i'm using the larger muffle ring to cut down the overtones. Haven't miced it yet but can't wait, going into studio today!!

Comments about Yamaha 2013 Stage Custom Birch Bass Drum:

i've been playing drums for about 14 years and have NEVER found a kick like this. i've had recording engineers ask to borrow it so they can get their studio kick to sound like mine. i have an older model of this stage custom set (early 90s) but it's got all the same specs to my knowledge. i bought it roughly 8 years ago used and have never needed to even change my heads. i mean i know i should, but the kick sounds so epic i don't want to mess up a good thing. i change the heads on my toms and snare as often as i can but for some reason the kick is just as tight and punchy as it's ever been. after 8 years though it is starting to sound "dead" but i think that AMAZING for an 8 year old head. that said, if you're playing fast music and you need something to "pump" AND "punch" and at the same time stay articulate, this is your kick. i've used it to record NOFX style punk, traditional 60's Ska and Reggae, as well as hip hop, funk, and straight rock and this thing excels at each with flying colors. get it. and get it now.
