OVERVIEW

A very affordable yet powerful DTX configuration.

The Yamaha DTX 500K Electronic Drum Set is versatile and easy to play. With extensive sonic capabilities, this drum set maintains an acoustic feel. This set is a great practice set but is also a highly capable studio drum set. For the new or advancing drummer, many training functions are included that can help you sharpen your skills. The metronome marks time as you play or use the Grove Check which will display whether you are playing on the beat. The Rhythm Gate mutes your playing if you are ahead of or behind the beat helping you to ultimately achieve that perfect rhythm. The set includes compact cymbals, a snare, kick pad, and 3 toms. The DTX 500K is also compatible with DTX-PADS so upgrading this drum set is easy. All of the pads feature good stick rebound and incorporated velocity-switching sound samples produce different sound characteristics as you play harder. The Yamaha DTX 500K™s module includes 50 preset kits and the ability to customize more of your own. With effects like digital reverb and EQ, you can even further manipulate your sound. With 426 naturally sampled drum and percussion sounds, whatever sounds you desire can be attained. This set includes natural acoustic sounds like Yamaha oak, maple, beech, and birch. With aux input, external MP3 and CD players can be integrated to your jam session. MIDI output interface allows connectivity with a computer and other devices. All of these components are kept safe and secure on the RS40 Rack system. Its lightweight, portable design is pre-assembled for extraordinarily easy set-up.

Yamaha stellar electronics in a set that covers all the bases for a great low price.

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

Everything you need! Watch for sales and you can get a better deal. Comes with the bass pedal, too. Just need a throne.
I have had this set for over a year now and it is still doing great. I play drums for my church and we have an electronic set there (a Roland). I wanted to be able to practice at home, but didn't want an acoustic set (too loud). This Yamaha was perfect for my needs. When you use your headphones and input your mp3 to it the sounds are AMAZING! Now, there are definitely sets with more (better) features out there if you have the $$$, but don't let the term "entry level set" or other terms bother you. This is a pro set. It does not have dual zone pads or a mesh snare, but it delivers everything you need to practice and perform. I never thought I would actually go on a gig with the set, but I was asked to be a part of a prison ministry several months ago. I packed this baby up in my van (very easy to manipulate to make it compact for moving) and we hooked it up to a Fender portable PA system, and it sounded awesome! I have since done this about 6 times since. I would say that the "brain" actually has more usable sets than the Roland at church. The Roland has more pre-made set sounds, but most of them I would never really use.
Well as you can tell, I love this Yamaha.

Review Yamaha DTX500K

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

Clearly I am happy with this purchase (and my grand-son is ecstatic). I wanted a unit that basically had everything, because I am well aware that it's no fun to play junk, and I wanted to provide him with something that sounded good, but was easy to use, had features that would help him learn, and could grow with him if he maintains his interest, and I wanted it all at a good price. This unit delivers.
I spent months researching different kits (I already own A Roland TD6 and an Alesis DM5, as well as an older Yamaha DTX). The features compare favorably with any of them.
Obviously, the pads and rack could be up-graded, but I actually like the fact that the rack is small compared to, say, A Roland TD4. A small footprint was a factor in my decision-making. In addition, it allows me to up-grade to better pads and/or rack later should I desire. Keep in mind I bought this as a Christmas present for my grand-son (who basically wants to play heavy metal), and believe me, if it can take the pounding he administered (it was like watching Animal of the Muppets) it should hold up to anything.
This is where I think the DTX500 shines. In terms of what you get for your money (number of voices/kits, sound quality, ease of use, etc) the DTX500 is quite superior to comparable units, such as the Roland TD4, and costs considerably less.

Yamaha DTX 500K awesome!

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

Overall, I love this kit. I live in an apartment, and I keep my acoustic kit at my parents house. They live a good drive a way, and I got tired of waiting til the weekends to go jam. Obviously, in an apartment, space is at a premium which is what lead me to the more compact dtx500k, over the larger yamaha kits. This thing rocks. I bought a "no-name" brand e-kit a few years ago for about the same price online and it was piece of junk. When buying e-kits stick to roland or yamaha. PERIOD.

Pros: Small, compact. Fits in my small apartment beautifully. No compaints from the neighbors yet. Pads are extremely durable, and don't seem to miss any hits. Tons of sounds. Great metronome. Top notch kit.

Cons. Hi hat pedal could be better. It works, but there is nothing like the real thing. Good news: hi hat is upgradeable. Also, if you have any illusions of expanding this kit later, let me burst your bubble now. All the ports in the brain are full with the pads that come with the kit. There IS an extra port in the kick drum, but only allows single zone pad outputs. But more practically, this rack is pretty much maxed out on space with the pads it comes with. The rack is small (which is why I bought it), but there is VERY little room to add on if you want. If you wanted to add more cymbals or toms, you will need to replace the rack. Last complaint is the brain is not very intuitive. It has tons of features, but if I lost the owners manaul I would be sunk.

All in all, great kit. Minor flaws, but they haven't stopped me from enjoying this kit from the minute I took it out of the box!!
Small, compact kit with a big sound. Solid rack. Durable pads. Brain has more features that I will probably ever use.
This kit may be "entry level", but the components are professional grade. Obviously, the pads and cymbals are only single zone, but the dynamics of the pad (playing from soft to loud) are pretty good. The rack is sturdy, all be it a little cramped.
Best value on the market.

Great Kit!

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

I have owned this kit for just about a year now and am really enjoying it. The quality is great and it is very good for jamming along with songs or friends.
Many different sounds you can get for each pad. You can easily find a solid sounding snare, toms, and cymbals. Tracks on the kit are not very good, but an Ipod or mp3 can be hooked up.
Very good sounding drums for an electric kit. With a good set of headphones or a good speaker, these drums sound excellent. The pads are very durable and can take a major beating.
No complaints with the price spent here. The drum kit is well worth it and can be used for any musician and genre.

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

I bought one of these Yamaha sets under the DTExplorer name (same set). I originally bought it for myself for use in my home studio, for adding drum tracks to recordings. Worked great although the drum samples were rather thin sounding. But not bad and I liked it so much, I took it to my church a few times to play -- long story short, I wound up leaving it set up there and getting a professioal Hart set for my own uses at home. The little Yamaha set at church is GREAT for adding drums to praise/worship music. I do wish it was a little more expandable and especially had multi-zone pads; I would love a center bell on my ride. Or a chokeable crash. Or a more sensitive, expressive snare. But it is what it is and serves it's purpose very well. And it does sound GOOD. It's also easy to get accomodated to and play (pads are kind of small and rubbery but you get used to it quick). I do think it could use a bit more re-enforcement on the frame/rack which is a bit on the flimsy side (lightweight aluminum). Overall, great little kit for light duty drumming, sounds good, super portable and inexpensive.

Surprised

Comments about Yamaha DTX500K Electronic Drum Set:

For what it is......I think this kit is extremely nice for the price and really steps up over most of the competition in this price range.
Basic features because of the price only....No chokable cymbal or multiple sounds from cymbals
Quality appeared to be very good.....sturdy set up
I do not own this kit and just spent time on it in a local music store and have to say I was very impressed with the sound along with the different kit styles. This specific model made me really consider looking into a higher model Yamaha kit with extra features such as mesh snare/pads and chokable cymbals.
