Comments about Yamaha DTX520K Electronic Drum Set:

Since there are no reviews for this awesome kit I thought I would be the first.

At this price point, there is no better drum kit, sure there are cheaper kits out there, but this kit has the best features that the cheap kits don't have.

There are 50 preset kits, and 20 kits you can make to your liking. You can change pad sounds, change volume and so much more it will make your head spin. There is a metronome and AUX in to plug in an ipod and play along with some music.

The cymbals are choke-able, which is very realistic, and the ride also serves as a crash, which some cheaper kits do not do. The snare drum feels awesome, it's not too bouncy, but not like a real drum head either. The toms are pretty responsive.

The bass drum pad will fit a double bass pedal, so no worries there.

This kit is great for quiet practice, but can also be used in a live setting or even in a home studio application.

I know I'm not the best reviewer in the world, but to put it very simply, this is the best kit you can get at the price point. In addition, I feel Yamaha makes the best E-drum kits. Their drum sounds are 10x more realistic than Roland's.

Comments about Yamaha DTX520K Electronic Drum Set:

There are things that you will always be able to do with an acoustic kit that you will not be able to do with an electronic kit -- but this is as close to the real thing as most of us will really need.

The XP-80 3-zone snare is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. The main pad has a very realistic texture, great responsiveness, and fantastic sensitivity. The rim shot and rim click are really useful, not to mention assignable. The ball-joint mounting is very convenient.

The 3-zone cymbals are also remarkably realistic. Everything from ride-bells to choked crashes. I find it especially useful that I can assign the bell, the bow, and the edge to three different sounds as well as three different MIDI note values that can trigger anything I want in my recording software.

I could go on and on with accolades. The one con that I have identified is that the MIDI implementation is limited to a single MIDI out interface. This is a limitation of the DTX500 module, which has been rectified on the DTX502, which is equipped with a USB connection instead.

I have owned many Yamaha musical instruments, including my long-time main bass guitar. I am always delighted with Yamaha products. The quality, sound, and reliability are top notch.
