With an amazing feel and a diverse array of functions, Yamaha DTX550K electronic drums bring you an impressive range of sounds that make this an ideal set whether you're practicing at home or performing live onstage.

Yamaha DTX-PAD Snare
As the focal point of the drum kit, the Yamaha DTX550K is equipped with a DTX-PAD Snare, the Yamaha XP100SD. In its development Yamaha set out to do more than just offer a drumhead that plays like an acoustic drum. In order to find out exactly how the feel of a drum encourages a drummer to keep playing, Yamaha worked with some of the industry's top drummers. The Yamaha DTX-PAD is the result of this collaboration, and is crafted with a textured cellular silicone head with the inner air bubbles configured to give near perfect response for continuous play and subtle stick work.

Yamaha Moving Hi-Hat Pad
A great hi-hat is a crucial part of any drum kit, and the DTX550K is no exception. With the Yamaha RHH135 moving-type electronic hi-hat, you can play the most nuanced of passages with precision and clarity.

Yamaha DTX-500 Sound Module
Contained within the compact body of the Yamaha DTX500 drum module are 427 amazing percussion sounds, created by a tone generator that handles both subtly nuanced snare work and dynamic, powerful drum strokes with ease. 50 preset drum kits have been carefully chosen to cover a diverse range of genres, including rock, funk, jazz, reggae, and Latin. The Yamaha DTX500 drum module stores up to 20 original drum kits and also features an onboard high-quality digital reverb. It offers a suite of comprehensive training functions to help you improve your drumming. The combination of a realistic hi-hat with the DTX-PAD's natural feel provides an enjoyable practice experience that's difficult to beat.

Comments about Yamaha DTX550K Electronic Drumset:

I owned a Remo Maple 7 peice kit for 8 years and recently sold it (hard to play while my sons sleeps) and I got this during Christmas. The bounce back on the snare is completely realistic and the toms are pretty great too! The snare has 3 different sounds for rims shots, normal strokes, and the jazz snare hit. The HiHat is great, sounds just as a real HiHat does, the Crash has the two point sounds for the bell and the classic smash hit and you can grab it and muffle the sound, the same goes for the ride as well. All in all, BUY THIS SET! Get an upgraded bassdrum pedel though if you can, also need those to be great, not just good.

Great sound, great value

Comments about Yamaha DTX550K Electronic Drumset:

I had an older Roland TD-10 kit that I bought used. I never cared for the mesh heads or constant tweaking to get a good balance from one drum or cymbal to the next. The sensitivity of the kit was inconsistent. Just wasn't fun to play.

I sold the kit and after studying my other options I went with Yamaha. I am really pleased with this kit. My only complaint is that such a nice kit comes with such a flimsy rack. I bought the PDP all-metal rack. That really makes this a nice kit. We use this kit to play live and it really sounds good pumped through the PA. With just a few minutes of initial tweaking, it was off to the races. Many of the kick patches are scrumptious. The snare has a great feel to it and the 3-way cymbals really add a lot of realism.

All said and done, this kit just sounds real. Only BIGGER! It's easy to dial in. It's easy to transport. (We just throw the whole thing in our trailer without busting it down). And it sounds great live and recorded. It's easy to set the levels so it sits in the mix just right depending on the venue. If I had to critque it, I'd say Yamaha should bundle it with a decent rack. It'd also be nice if the head/brain was more robust in the I/O setup. For example, there's just a left/right stereo output. It'd be better if they offered individual outs for each drum. I'd also like to see some USB connectivity and some sort of editor so users could share patches, do updates and such.

Nevertheless, this kit is a great value and offers a great set of sounds.

Comments about Yamaha DTX550K Electronic Drumset:

Just bought this kit after much deliberation and I'm glad I did. Choosing between this, the roland td9 with rubber tom pads and the roland td4kx. Tried them all and this is the one that jumped out at me, snare felt amazing, cymbals responded better that any of the roland's that I played. Hi-hat feels more natural with the normal stand. The sounds were similar to rolands but I much preferred the maple and oak custom sounds to anything in the roland td9's module. I will admit that the DTX module is not as "user friendly" as the td9 but I knew I was going to have to read the manual to get the best out of it anyway so that didn't bother me to much. This was just my personal preference but since there was no review on here I thought I would post one and let people know how I felt about the kit for anyone considering buying this. So to sum up the features of the yamaha dtx550k beat the td4kx hands down and I just gelled more with this than the td9. It's all personal choice so get out there and try if you want.

Best Electric Kit I've ever played

Comments about Yamaha DTX550K Electronic Drumset:

Hands down, amazing kit. Yamaha has really outdone themselves this time. I didn't buy my kit off musiciansfriend, but I have to say, this kit is wonderful. The sounds are high quality, and very realistic. When the drums arrived, I found the dtx-pad and played it. Greatest feeling pad EVER. SO much better than mesh. Absolutely love it. Took a while to set up, but it was very worth it. The only issue I have is the kick drum, it could be a little bigger, quieter, and actually FEEL like a kick drum, but its no big deal at all really.
