Comments about Yamaha DTX700K Electronic Drum Set:
I've been a drummer for about 10 years and I bought DTX700K for 2 reasons, the first one is to practice and it's great! Pretty realistic feel and well built. The DTX700 module has a lot of tools for that purpose and if you look on youtube you'll find some videos about its features. It can take a lot of hard punch too! I own it for about 3 months and none of the pads have shown any "bruises".
But the main reason is to record drums. I'm starting a home studio without much acoustic insulation, so I couldn't use my acoustic drums in it (yeah… neighbors).
I've been using DAW softwares and midi sequencers for a long time and I know their potential to get realistic sounds. I wanted an electronic drum kit with good sensitivity to use with these softwares and I got baffled with the results! It is simply AWESOME!
I use Propellerhead Reason 5 along with the Reason drum kits 2.0 expansion which has great professional samples. It took a little time to get a good "conversation" between the software and drum module (especially with the hi-hat cymbals), but after some tweaking the results you get are outstanding! I've shown my recordings to many of my drummer friends and professionals of the area and none of them believed it was recorded with an electronic drum!
And it is so practical!!! If any of you recorded acoustic drums in studio, you know that arranging the mics and tuning the heads take a lot of time… without mentioning the post-recording, where you have to do it all over again if you missed a snare here or there or wanted different mics positioning. With DTX700K you can record drums at anytime and adjust anything you want later, as any midi device.
This drumkit is amazing for this two purposes!
