Combines time-tested technology with advanced drum manufacturing.
Yamaha has created the DTXTREME IIIS Limited Edition Electronic Drum Set by parlaying their time-tested technology research with advanced drum manufacturing. Featuring a 6-piece configuration with three cymbal pads. Upgrades include a curved rack, great-feeling pads, sampling capabilities, and a selection of drum voices from the award-winning Yamaha MOTIF synthesizer. Soft, 3-zone rubber pads offer players the ultimate in performance comfort, natural feel, and rebound. Each pad includes an assignable controller for pitch, voice selection, or other parameters, while the snare pads can also assign strainer control. The hi-hat controller combines a real drum stand with an electronic pad for a traditional look and feel. Onboard electronics include 1,115 realistic drum voices, 128 GM voices, 90 preset drum kits, 40 user kits, 164 preset songs, 32 user songs, Groove Check practice feature, and an easy-view backlit display. 8MB of voices, kits, or songs may be stored and retrieved via a SmartMedia storage card. The DTXTREMEIIIS includes MIDI and USB to HOST connections for PC or Mac.
DTXtreme IIIS Trigger Module
Yamaha Drums, the only company to make acoustic and electronic drums, has completely overhauled its flagship electronic kit and introduced the DTXTREME IIIS.
A shining example of technology powered by a drum company, the DTXTREME III module uses the same technology that powers the supercharged Yamaha MOTIF XS synthesizer. In addition to over 1,000 onboard drum, percussion and special effect voices, the module includes over 100 General MIDI voices. With the optional memory installed, 512 MB of sampling allows players to trigger a large library of custom sounds. The DTXTREME III also features USB connectivity and an advanced internal sequencer.
Yamaha combined its electronic drum and digital music design teams to share technology and create this powerful electronic drum module. The user-friendly features of this module are exceptional and the sounds will blow you away. Several Yamaha drum artists, including Tommy Aldridge, Akira Jimbo, Russ Miller, John "JR" Robinson and Tony Verderosa, among others, had a hand in designing the DTXTREME IIIS.

This kit is top notch. Have played Roland mesh heads and these new Yamaha's feel and respond even more like a real drum set. Great Yamaha hardware included... even the hi hat stand. All for quite a bit less cash than a comparable V Drum kit.
This is a fantastic bundle for the money, but be aware of the following: this kit is comprised of the new DTXtreme IIIS module but all the pads, including the bass drum and hi-hat, and the rack, are new old-stock DTXtreme IIS items. I own a IIS and love it. But, having played a IIIS, my opinion is the upgraded hi-hat, bass drum, and cymbal pads on the IIIS are superior in many ways. My understanding is that the snare and tom pads are identical between the IIS and IIS series.Again, the quality of this kit is very good but understand you are not getting all-new technology; rather you're getting a blend of old and new.
First things first... In a live setting, electric drums will NEVER out-do a good acoustic set. There is just no way a computer can respond to the dynamics that an acoustic set will respond to.But! These things are the best for recording and practice. Quiet, great selection of sounds, very good low end. The only part of the Yamaha drum set that I can complain abour are the cymbals. They sounds kinda processed. But, all the sounds are recorded samples of the real thing. Very durable kit. If space or stage sound is an issue than they are good for live situations, but remember, an acoustic set is the best.If I were spending the money again, I would buy Yamaha over the Roland. More bang for the buck. Plus I think roland electric sets sound fake. Almost like they're midi.
