I bought this Yamaha mount to use with a Bearing Edge kit. I needed to use Gibralter 12.7mm ball style L-rods. This forced me into some interesting multi-clamp configurations since there's no tom mount in the kick drum. This mount uses the standard 7/8" pipe while most similar mounts are 1". Why is this important? Most bass drum tom mounts are 1" but most cymbal stands are 7/8". You can place this mount in a Pearl, etc. cymbal base and add two Gibralter ball mount L-rods to mount two toms. In the third hole you can place the Pearl, etc. cymbal stand mid and top sections so it functions as a complete cymbal stand too. All this while maintaining a single double braced tripod on the floor!!The advantage I see using this mount vs. several multi-clamps is 1) the memory lock, 2) the fact it's a cast part made to hold three 7/8" accessories. It's solid with three heavy accessories mounted. It is also available in the WS-904 tom stand which is the lowest tom stand I've been able to find. Most tom stands are too tall for hanging floor toms. Many people mount the L-rods upside-down to get the drums low enough. That works but if a tom should come loose it will hit the floor. The WS-904 with this triple mount solves that problem. You can mount the L-rod right-side-up and still get the toms down where you want them.
