Great polished cymbal. I know that's just cosmetic. The real thing about the cymbal is the sound. It has a nice projection. Not super loud but should cut trough the Drums very well. I have an "A" crash 18" and this 18" "A Custom" has a different sound. The A Custom is not broke in yet so the "A" sounds a little better right now. I'll see how the 'A custom" sounds after a good breaking in. All in all its still has a good crash sound.

Let me start by saying that this 16" A Custom Medium Crash sounds very nice. It manages to be both hard-hitting and shimmery at the same time, perfect for the metal that I usually play and for louder worship songs I sometimes play at church. HOWEVER, I encountered an odd problem with mine specifically.
My cymbal, I noticed after a couple weeks, is weighted unevenly. On a finger or vertical stand, it hangs at about a 9 degree angle. . This causes it to naturally slant toward me while I play with only one side ever facing me, which will invariably lead to warping later in its life. The bell and the edge are not warped, this was the first thing I checked upon recognizing the issue. I'm sure this is a unique problem, and certainly not something I'd ever expect from Zildjian. I contacted Zildjian Customer Service and will change my review later to reflect any impressions I have of a properly-manufactured cymbal if they do the right thing and offer me a replacement.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

Really like the cymbal. Great ring and durable. Highly recommended along with other A Custom cymbals.
This is a very nice sounding, durable cast cymbal. This is the way to go if you're serious about drumming.
Well made, sharp looking cast cymbal. Not so thin that they crack like their sheet cymbals.
Much better then their less expensive sheet cymbals which so many people buy in an attempt to save some money, but soon they will find that they need replacing because these cymbals are much more more prone to cracking or chipping.

Great Cymbal For Any Situation!

By Alec Brown

from New Hampshire

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I currently own and play a 16" A Custom Medium Crash Cymbal and I absolutely LOVE it!! This cymbal is very responsive, bears a bright, loud attack, and fades out reasonably quick. Since it is medium weight, it has more of a "rock cymbal" sound, but as a drummer who plays a very wide genre of music, I find it fits in pretty well in any situation.
Like I mentioned, a full on hard hit really brings the kit to life, but even played lightly the cymbal adds a bright lively sound to the kit. You will not be disappointed with this cymbal in any live or studio scenario, simply put: it rocks.
I feel that should note that this is one durable cymbal. I've had my 16" for a few years now and it has survived my hard playing crack and chip free...and it still has that bright new cymbal shine!
Drummers, I think you agree with me when I say no cymbal comes cheap these days!! Do note that we are talking about Zildjian, so you are paying for a top notch quality cymbal!

I recently have been swapping out old broken Zildjian A cymbals for the A Custom line. This was my second replacement after my hi-hats.
This cymbal was exactly what I was looking for. Versatility in the cymbal lets me crash hard, or I can ride it to get a very washy wall of noise. Perfect for my application, which is rock/blues/punk/metal.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I play classic rock and oldies and only use Zildjian cymbals. This is labeled a medium crash & Zildjian says it's the thickest crash they sell but it is really pretty thin. The sound blends perfectly with my other A's & older Zildjians (Rock ride, splash, new-beats & thin crash). GREAT CYMBAL!

This cymbal is amazing. I was always waiting for them to finally release a heavier crash for the a custom line because projection crashes broke too fast. I finally got my first crack in my 17" after about 8 months.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I played with some of these on my friend's drum set and I cracked it. They sounded pretty good, and at the time I was looking or a good crash, but I took these out of consideration because they were wobbly and too thin and breakable for my style, especially because I generally hit pretty hard. Not good for a a hard hitter. If you're looking for a crash like similar to this or a Zildjian A Custom crash, I would definately go for the regular A Custom crash or the A Custom Projection Crash. Those are great.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

This is the first Zildjian I have purchased, and it has been the best purchase of my life! It has every thing a cymbal of mine needs; a bright, explosive crash, with a decay that is just perfect, volume control, and most importantly, durability. I've had this crash for several years now, and it has stood up rigorous gigging from a guy that has broken all the sticks and drumheads he's owned. This cymbal is perfection at it's finest.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I've had the 20" for almost 2 years. This cymbal owns for two reasons. First, it's the only crash I haven't broken. Second, it's the best sounding crash for Rock (or louder) music. I give it a 4 for value because it's not cheap and the volume is overpowering in small clubs, limiting its versatility.

This is a great cymbal for hard rock and punk. Its got a huge decay that lasts for like a minute, and a great sound for chokes. I highly reccomend this cymbal to all drummers who are serious about playing because its a bit expensive.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I bought the 17in crash a while ago. I took it home and was testing it out. It sounded great a nice great quality crash sound with a full bodied response. Not too high pitched but just right. Then I realized that I wasn't able to hear it over the drums, so I took it back and got a Sabian AAX-plosion crash. That solved my volume problems. Nice cymbal, but not loud enough for my taste. Maybe I got a bad one or something. If I was loaded, I would buy one to use for accents however.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

I was a bit skeptical about purchasing the medium crash because I thought the cymbal would be too heavy, but I was wrong. The cymbal has a balanced feel to it, but requires some force to get that great crash out of it. I haven't taken the cymabl to its limits, but thus far the cymbal has a marvelous sound. Definitely not for low volume situations. The decay is long, but blends perfectly with an A custom projection ride. Great cymbal, great value seeing as I bought from the Blems on Musician's Friend.

I love these things! I currently own a 15", but also have played on a 20" and hear it regularly at church. What I like most about these is that when you ride on them, you can hear each note, which makes the beat evident (and head-bangable to), unlike a fast crash, where its just a big "shhhhh" sound. They have very high attack right when you hit them. These things are pretty thick too! Theres no signs of mine breaking any time soon! Mine is very warm and cuts through just about anything. I will definetly be purchasing a medium crash for all my future cymbal needs :)

I use the A Customs exclusively. I have a mix of thin, medium and fast. I use them based on what I am playing at the time. I pound my drums and cymbals and have never cracked one. I even clamp them down with no problems. Very fast attack and rapid decay. I use them for recording and live gigs. These are the absolute best.

The 19inch crash has an amazing sound. It was exactly what I needed for my louder music and more intense drumming. The sharp and cutting sound accects over my other crashes. I would suggest any size in this cymbal which is probobly Ziljians best series.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash:

While Zildjian describes this Medium Crash as the thickest A Custom, don't be fooled. It is perfectly capable of a warm sound and that "shimmering" tone we're all familiar with. It's capable of providing everything from explosive accents to a simple figurative "nod" on beat one of a phrase. If you're playing a rather quiet passage, it is even feasible to ride on it. The only negative here is that you need to slice it pretty hard to get a big sound out of it. Overall, though, its myriad uses and great sound make it worth more than it's alleged monetary value.
