More like A Custom CRASH/ride

By Anonymonomous

from PA

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

As the title states. This should be labeled the A Custom Crash/Ride. The crash sound in my opinion is better than the ride sound. The ride is way more washy than pingy, so for you blasters that need definition buy this as a crash, not a main ride. The bell is small, but it cuts. I'm not really a ride person. In my genre, I don't like to leave many sonic gaps so I crash more than I ride on anything. It really is 2 cymbals in one if you aren't playing metal.

EXCELLENT!

By Looser13

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal is great. I picked it up a few weeks ago at my local drum shop. ITS GREAT!!!! If you use thin sticks or nylon tips then you get a lovely ping sound. If you use heavy sticks you will get a more washy tone. It sounds great when recording too. The decay is REALLY slow but thats a good thing for me when i have to use my ride as a crash. Dont pass this up because of the price tag. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!

so very diverse

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

this ride does it all. i'd say this cymbal replaces the sweet ride as best crash/ride. the a custom, at least in my opinion has a better bell sound, thicker and more cutting... and seems to have more substance in the center of the cymbal for better stick definitition when using it as a ride. honestly, the crash sound is unparalleled, a beautiful sustain, and a huge dynamic scale. this cymbal is a great buy.

Good wash ride

By JSdrummer

from Michigan

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

This is a great ride although it has more wash than ping. It plays well in settings where loud playing is not required. What I have noticed is that This cymbal (like all I suppose) sounds better with age. I've also noticed that using a light stick on it gives it a nice "click" while a heavier stick brings out much more ping. In mellow settings this cymbal is great. I louder rock settings go to a heavier ping cymbal.

Leads to crashing

By F. Smith

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal, when hit with the tip of the stick is very washy. It really opens up when you hit it with the shoulder of the stick towards the edge of the cymbal. The cybal is the loudest in my set--it's crash is much bigger and has more sustain than my K Dark crash. The bell cuts very well when hit with the shoulder of the stick, but I find it best to not have the wing nut on the stand so you can hit it in the right spot more often. This cymbal is bright and washy, and would make an excellent crash for metal, and it can work for anything else. The only real problem with it is that it sounds so good when you let it open up, that it almost defeats the purpose of a ride cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal elsewhere, and slightly used. From the first moment I heard it, I knew it's the ride I had been looking for. It sounds amazing when used as a ride and it's got a full sound when used as a crash. Most rides, used as a crash sound to "Gongy." Not the case here. Great cymbal!

My favorite cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

I have played the drums for many years and have circulated through too many cymbals. I found my favorite in the A Custom 20" crash. It gives me so much more than I expected for the money I spent: a great ride sound with the tip of the stick, and when I strike the edge of the cymbal it produces an incredible crash. I have played some gigs using no crashes, just ride and hi-hat. I like that it does not give much of a ping like a lot of other rides, but that's just personal preference.I play mostly rock, and for this it is absolutely perfect. If you're playing other genres I'm not sure that I would reccomend it. For example, it is way to bright for jazz.Overall, I could not imagine a better ride cymbal. If you don't have enough money, then save up. If you have more money to spend in your budget, then buy this cymbal and donate the rest.

Great Cymbal For The Money

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

High School's Concert band was THROWING this away, because it was "too dirty" so i followed them to the dumpster and got myself a free ride cymbal. Not big on pinging, but more on crashing, this is the perfect ride for me. More of a crash/ride to be honest, but plays great nonetheless. coupled with a 20" a custom crash ive got the sound ive always looked for. great cymbal!

I have been looking for a really good ride. I tryied many cymbals, many of them more expensive than A Custom, but I would prefer it because is a very versatile cymbal. It is washy for jazz and crash perfect for other styles.I made a very good choice.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

I've been a drummer for 4.5 years. I play mostly metalcore-type stuff. I bought the 20 inch.

So this ride is quite nice, but definitely not my ideal ride. I listen to The Devil Wears Prada a lot and I was looking for a ride with a good ping/ding but also crash-able. This one is great for crashing! Though very quiet ping. The bell is alright, would like it to be louder.

The sound is explosive on the crash though. I use it to wash on while playing heavier verses or breakdowns. It's nice and cuts through my other band members live if I want it to! This ride is quite light, so I suppose it makes sense the ping is low volume.

I plan on saving up and getting the A Medium Ride. It's also crash-able and has a warmer tone. I believe it has a louder ping and bell too.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

I play jam band type music and this cymbal is really good for that style.
Cymbal sounds great overall. It has a bright sound with good stick definition. It has nice crash ride sound as well if you lay into it. The finish is beautiful. Very shiny.
My only con is that bell could be a bit more cutting than it is. But it is still an excellent cymbal.

Versatile

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

This is an interesting cymbal. If you're looking for a primary ride with tight stick definition, forget it, but if you're looking for something washy that's easy to light up, the A Zidjian is great. Best of all though, this is a badass crash cymbal if you're playing loud music. I use this as one of my two crashes, and it fills up a lot of space. You can really dig in, and it kinda sounds like shattering glass.

It's cool

By Ronald Haines

from Traverse city, MI

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

It's not a ping ride by any means.....BUt this is a cool product. Its a very light weight ride. It crash's excellent and can be ride crashed cool as all get out. The bell is not to great but it can be cutting. It is I guess a jazz ride when played on top. But when ride crashing oh boy...Its a monster. For metal. Not a Ping Cymbal.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Ride Cymbal:

This is an amazing sounding cymbal. I use it as a crash cymbal. It is very loud and has alot of wash with a loud pingy sounding bell for beautiful cutting bell shots. It is on the expensive side but well worth it.
