I guess they have acquired a darker sound over the years, and I love them now more so. I don't need any other pair of hi-hats. These will do the trick for any gig, recording, and music type.

I was very disappointed with these. I'm typically a Zildjian man and have heard nothing but praise about the new beat hi-hats. I have A Series all around (16" thin crash, 18" medium thin crash, 18" crash ride) except for my hi hats which are Sabian B8's, and while they're decent, especially for the price, I was looking to complete a cohesive set of A Series Cymbals. I was eager to take these out of the box and install them onto the stand, but was horrified by what I heard upon playing them. Not only are they incredibly shrill and high pitched, but there is a terrible ringing sound that accompanies the tone, and they're somewhat noisy as well. I was so displeased with them that I returned them and am sticking with my $80 B8's for now, and this is coming from a Zildjian person.

Okay but not worth the price.

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I got the 14" pair with a kit that I bought and I would say that they are an average pair of hats. Nothing really special here. Decent chick and wash, but for the price, you could do better. Though I have beat the hell out of these for five years and no cracks or dings. If you can find them used for a decent price, I say go for it. However, I wouldn't buy them new or ever again. They serve their purpose, but I just think there are better options in this price range.

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I bought my first pair of 14" New Beats in 1988, and still play them to this day. I wanted a second pair of hats, as a matter of convenience, so I went shopping, and nothing I tried sounded as good as what I already had, so I ended up getting a new, second pair of Zildjian A 14" New Beat Hi-Hat cymbals, and I'm glad I did. They don't sound exactly the same as my old ones, but they still offer the same versatility, and possess the same level of sound quality and feel, as my original pair. I'm sure there are other good hats out there, but the 14" New Beats just sound "right" to me. So there you have it.

I really loved my old zildjian hi hats that I've had forever, but I couldn't resist a sale price for the New Beats. What a difference! Cut to the chase, buy the good stuff and sound like a pro. These hats are unbelievable!

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

These hi hats are extremely versatile, but i may not reccomend them to a metal or rock player playing them partially opened, as they may sound clangy. I use them primarily in a jazz setting. the chick is very cutting loud, and clean. best chick i've heard from a pair of hats. These hats are probably best used in a jazz, rock (closed), funk, or any other situation besides metal. Very musical cymbals, great for hihat grooves, but if you're wash riding with them partially open they may begin to sound clangy (it DOES vary from pair to pair though.)

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I had zildjian z customs for the past 3 years, and I just got tired of how all they where good for really is a wash sound. I wanted something with a good chick sound, and a good was sound. These don't do both. They are great for a chick sound, but open not so much. I like these hi hats, and I suppose I'm glad I bought them, but I might sell them and buy some new ones soon. If you like to play open with your hi hats then these aren't for you. Don't do what I did and rush into buying them, and try out other things. I bought the 15 inch ones by the way.

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

There are some instruments that you can buy, and never really need anything else. A COA Supra; a Country Gent; a B-3. Instruments that continue to be made and represent the Classic Sound of their genre. Well, New Beats are the hats that do that for drumset. There's a zillion different models in this world, and for the most part, the 14" set are the classic size. Mine happen to be 15", and I'll take 'em to my grave...

I'm in my school's jazz band and these are the hi-hats we use. They are perfect! They have a nice open sound and a solid chick sound. I wouldn't recomend these to people who play hardcore and metal, these are more for jazz.

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

They are Zildjian New Beats... how much more iconic can you get? Though their sound has changed over time from the '60s to now, they are still the same quintessential sound that all other hi hats are measured against. But, you know this because, otherwise, you wouldn't be considering them. I offer this: sometimes, for me, the sound is too "classic." I've owned three pairs of hi hats: Sabian HHX Evo's, Sabian AAX Metal Hats, and these. My favorites? The AAX Metal Hats. They fit me and my style of music. The Sabian HHX Evo's were a let down, and I got rid of them. Don't get me wrong, they sounded great, but my expectation of them was over the top, and they were just regular, everyday, good-sounding hats. As far as the New Beats? They're great too, but don't let your expectations run away from you. They sound good with any genre of music; they are that classic, quintessential hat sound. No more, no less. I have them on my practice kit at the house. They are durable and sound great, and if I ever need them to fill any gap, they'll always be standing by.

I have played Zildjian classic 14" hi hats and bought the 'A' New Beat 13" Hi Hats. I wanted a tighter chic sound from foot action and solid stick voice; excellent open hat with stick too - I got exactly what I wanted - their great!

First off... Amazing. But, Flat out not for metal or any really heavy rock. Not designed for that. Hi Hat Barks are great, tight is great, semi open is great. open is powerful sounding. Versatile. I have owned these for years and they don't have any problems. bell is real nice.

I have used this specific pair of hats for about three years in a diverse range of applications. Regardless of what type of sound you're looking for, there is a 95% chance that these cymbals have it. They sound great for everything; I have used them for jazz, funk, ska, metal, and punk. They have a very crisp "chick" sound and, depending on how tight you have your stand, can have a very clean to a more washy sound. The search for a perfect pair of hi-hats is over.

The Zildjian 14" New beats are the only high hat cymbals I have ever owned and I've owned these for 34 years. Not one single crack. Many other drummers have played on these as I keep them in my studio, so they've been used and abused but have stood up to all. I've played mostly rock on these but also blues, country and Jazz and they are good for any style. I just bought a pair of these for my son who plays in the school jazz band. I do beleive his have a little bit higher pitch than mine but still sound good. You can't go wrong with these.

Comments about Zildjian A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

There is a reason why these are the most demanded hi-hats out there. I feel they can compare to Paiste Signatures even with the significantly lower price. Despite their thickness they are very bright when open and have the natural chick you hear when you imagine it. Also, due to their thickness you can really squeeze them together and change their pitch when closed. Great stuff.

I bought these hi-hats because my whole life i have played the vintage new beats and they sound amazing. When I got these I was thoroghly dissapointed at the slopiness of the sound when I hat it. It wasn't crisp or clear and it just didn't sound all that good. it sounded very trashy. Don't get me wrong, these symbols are okay... but nothing near as good as what zildjian used to produce

I've owned these hi-hats for nearly 3.5 years now. I have yet to find scenario where they do not sound good in. I love the fact that these cymbals are so versatile. Still to this day i have not found anything to complain about these cymbals. i may eventually buy a second auxiliary pair that is a little darker like sabian hhx's or zildjian k's. but for the money and versatility, these are the best hi-hats in my honest opinion.

I recently got a pair of these and I absolutely love them. They have a real classic, medium volume sound to them, so if you're looking for hi hats that stand out, they're not for you. They sound great closed and even better open. I switched to these after playing on 14" A Custom Mastersounds for the longest time, and I'll never go back to anything else. They sound incredible.
