Comments about Zildjian Gen16 Hi-Hats:
I take lessons form a teacher and each week I go sit in his studio and we cover different material. Recently I went inside for a lesson and he hat a pair of these hihats and a 20" cymbal for a ride. What we practice on is a snare drum with a pad and some drums but most of the lesson is stuff focused on the snare syncopation and accents and a bit of foot work and all. But it is basically more of a practice kit set up. Right away I fell in love with these hihats and cymbals as they sound great and have great action and are quiet with perfect sound. So for my practice set up at home I needed these as for some years there hasn't really ever been any decent hihats or material for ride or crash that is quiet. Plastic is a joke. Pads are pads. But these work great. My drum shop here in town also sold me them for about half price without the electronics included since I didn't need that anyway. The 20" cymbal is no longer available so I had to settle for the 18". It still does the same thing as I use this for a ride when practicing my reading and patterns. I was informed that these didn't really do well on the market for their intended purpose. But for a practice hit they rule! real hihat action. Real ride action at less than half the sound to match my snare pad and double bass pad system. If your thinking about these for this purpose, from what I hear you might not want to waste any time as I hear they are not doing well. I expect they will go bye bye. For a practice kit they are awesome!
