Greatest hybrid cymbal ever

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

Goes great with any type of drumming. Very explosive and powerful as a crash, but it can be played light and smooth like on a jazzy constantinople big band ride. It is the exact sound that I have been looking for for a long long time. My only complaint about this cymbal is that the bell isnt quite as dry as I might like with a ride. But I cant ask for a good bell on this ride, being a crash ride. DUH TOTALLY RECOMMENDED

Best crash ever!

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I was looking for an explosive crash. I went to the Zildjian website to preview the sounds of the different crashes. Even though this cymbal wasn't listed under the crashes, this is the best one hands down. I was not disappointed one bit when I got it. The ride qualities aren't quite what I would expect for the amount it cost but, I wasn't looking for a ride. This thing cuts through any live situation and also has excellent recording qualities. If you?re looking for the best crash ever, look no further.

Great as a crash cymbal and an okay ride

By Miguel D.E.

from Olympia, WA

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

While I don't really like the sound of this cymbal used as a ride (I have the "1 maybe the "20 is better as a ride), I absolutely love it as a crash. I put this on the ride side of my kit as a second ride and a bigger crash to compliment my smaller crash cymbals. As a ride, the "18 is super watery sounding and the stick definition actually isn't that clear unless you play hard. As a crash, it is explosion with intelligent overtones. It is incredibly dark sounding and has the slowest, but most graceful, decay ever. Literally seconds will go by before the cymbal stops pulsating! It sounds better if you hit it harder, but a simple tap on the edge will bring it to life. It has many applications you could use this for, but the style I think of most when I play this is jazz.

Bright, Loud, and Cutting - need I say more?

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

Awesome cymbal, I might have to buy the whole set ... 18,21, and 22 the 20 is nothing short of spectacular and is really projective ... It's bright and it's just plain awesome! Ride qualities are meh, good for jazz but I wouldn't use it as a main crash, but a secondary one. Other then that awesome Crash! I'm no doubt saving money to buy the 21 inch soon! Thanks ZildjianJust a side note though, I have a Projection Crash 17 inch that doesn't really blend well with it, I think this cymbal would fit well with other K's, A Customs (thins), and probably the Medium Thin Crashes just my opinion...

Outstanding Cymbal

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I recently traded in a Zildjian A Medium-Thin 18" crash to get the 18" version of this K Crash-Ride. I had never previously traded or really sold a piece of drum equipment in my life. It's just that, when I heard this one, I knew I had to have it. I never was too hip on the idea of a "crash-ride", I mean, what is it, a crash or a ride ? Well, I'd say this is a crash, which is excellent for "crash-riding". It has a complex sound that is, by no means, dark, in fact, I would say it's got a nice bite to it, and it has its share of brightness, with a very smooth wash and decay. It's not the kind of cymbal that you crash hard on. In fact, I think bigger crashes like this sound best when struck not too hard. I'm not that great at describing cymbals, all I do know is I have some great cymbals, and this one easily stands among the very best I own. Definitely a top-of-the-line pie ... highly recommended.

too ponderous...not what i'd expect from a k

By philreedmoney

from Southern Ohio

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

When crashed the cymbal is crashed upon, the bell produces an extremely irritating high pitched tone. I was hoping this would be a good choice as a crash since the k line doesn't offer and 20" crashes. It doesnt really float my boat, and it was a pretty big let down. I ended up placing duct tape on the underside of the bell to mute out the nasty ring and that helped a little....if you're looking for a big cymbal to crash on go with a Meinl Byzance Jazz Sweet Light Ride.

Awesome cymbal

By 2Q86THw95

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

This is a really cool cymbal. It's a little weird to get used to at first, but once you do it is bad a**. My only complaints are that the bell rings out for a long time, not that big of a problem, and when you're playing it like a ride, if you hit hard it will pick up the crash sound.

Awsome Cymbal

By Gandyman40

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I got the 20" K Crash/Ride and it is amazing. The crash sound of it is really powerful, and explosive. The ride part is a little hummy, but I don't use the ride part to often. If you are just looking at it, I suggest you get it. Its worth every penny.

Better than the older version (pre-serial)

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I have the 18" version and really like it. Had an earlier version (brilliant finish) that didn't fitted in my setup. Also had a weird hum that annoyed me. This one is superior. It is better for crashing than riding, but have a very nice small bell that sounds as good as the one in my 20" K Ride (new version, too), and they matched very well together. The ride sound is good but a bit washy for a primary ride. Makes an excellent "left side ride". It is also very good for crashriding during loud passages. No weird hum or ring in this one. Too me, it is worth every penny.

Crash/Ride more crash than ride

By Drumbum-lP8YH

from Texas

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I bought the 20" used cheap after a Kenny Aronoff clinic as a compromise between a crash and a ride. However, this is not what I was looking for. It's too wimpy as a ride, the wash drowns every articulation out. The bell is all right, but quiet. At low volumes it's not bad, but when I'm on stage with a full band, as a ride, this just doesn't cut it. However, this is one of the best crashes I have ever heard. It projects and makes little kids wet their pants. If your looking for a really loud crash this is it.

K crash ride

By FJR1269

from Brownsville,TX

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I bought this cymbal as a compromise. I couldn't afford a true ride so I settled for a crash ride. The cymbal is mainly used as a ride because it has some very good qualityies. The sticking and the bell are rather nice on the cymbal, but as a crash its too overwhelming and warm also the cymbal sound tends to linger far longer than my A zildjians. My recommendation would be to save your money and buy a true ride or a crash of your choice. The cymbal is rather expensive to buy to have somewhat limited playing possibilities.

Wonderful Cymbal

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I own the 18in version and can't get enough of it. It has a great crash sound and works well as a left hand ride. Like other reviews before, the ride sound is very washy, and brings out the crash noise if played too hard. however, this proves to be very good for lighter acoustic settings. My one word to describe it would be sensitive. Its my favorite cymbal!

Dark Crash qualites With Powerful Projection

By Keegan

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

Plain and simple. This cymbal needs no help to cut through any other instrument on stage. Its Dark crash quality with a somewhat shimmering ride definition works great for Louder musical application. Its Lightweight, its durable but those stickmarks will mess up its appearance so make sure to have that trusty Zildjian cymbal polish on hand if you want it to look nice! Its expensive but Its worth every cent! Outstanding Job once again Zildjian!

Sabian Vs. Zildjian. . . . . . .No Contest!!!!!!

By Mr. Zildjian

Comments about Zildjian K Crash Ride:

I have had this crash-ride for about two months now in the 20", and it is thee best cymbal I have come across since my three years I've been playing drums! I don't know what the 18" is like, but the 20" is so loud!!! Don't wory about volume in this cymbal. It gives me too much at times!! It has a rather low pitch, but don't assume that's a bad thing! This crash-ride brings you a low humming sound that really fights its way through all of the other sounds on stage. A perfect, effective, and sharp crash sound it provides and the bell isn't half bad! I wouldn't use this as a main ride, but as an alternate ride I would totally recommend it! This cymbal sounds best in loud passages and is a MUST when it comes to cymbals ! Sabian, Paste, Wuhan and whatever other wanna-be cymbal brands could never get ANYWHERE close to making a cymbal with such fine metals as this one!
