OVERVIEW

Professional cymbal with multiple tonal options.

Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Crash cymbal features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.

The relatively thin design of the crash results in a very responsive quality. It opens up quickly but still has the ability to project loudly and cut into dense mixes due to the unlathed bell.

"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

Better than a Soundbyte!!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Listen, I spent weeks contemplating what cymbals to buy. When I first began searching I thought I would save money and buy ZHT's( a nice sounding mid-range cymbal itself) and then slowly upgrade to the K's. I play an 11-piece pearl kit and was robbed close to a year ago and they took all they could carry: Korg D3200 recorder, Korg M-5o keyboard workstation and all of my cymbals and pedals. They were sweet enough to leave my kit and wrap-around rack. Anyway, when it come time to make a purchase I went to a local music store to see and hear the Hybrids as I had a feeling they were better than what the soundbytes were portraying. They sounded incredible. Very strong shimmer with a dark wash. The whole line fit that description. I had planned on the 15", 17" 19" crashes and the 9" and 11" splash, but the 15" was a little to high but the 16" was much darker and lower in tone while still sounding like shattered glass. Amazing. The 17", while the undertone(the hum below the wash) was lower than the 16"'s the actual wash or shimmer was higher in tone wich was kind of backwards from what I expected but they sound great together. The 19" has a beutiful depth while still maintaining a shimmer to die for. The wash on these Hybrid,s are insane. These are thin cymbals but they're no fast crash exactly. They have a mild sustain, yet, so musical. I am telling you, you could write a song with these cymbals alone. Now for the Splash, Oh Man these are so sharp they could cut the rest of your cymbals in half. The nine is the embodiment of what a splash can be. The 11" is OUTRAGEOUS, The sharpest splash I have ever heard. So Do I think these are great cymbals? There is a reason why these are the most expensive cymbals Zildjian offer, and as bad as it may hurt to think about laying down that kind of cash for a cymbal, you'll never look back if you do. Two more notes: 1) Although thin, these cymbals have a heavy lathe and that makes for a very reasonably durable cymbal. 2) I am a professional yet I swear by Wuhans Chinas(laugh if you want), and thier Chinas should have a K stamped on them because they couldn't be any more sonically matched. You don't have to be a rookie to appreciate thier Chinas. Take a chance on a 16",18", or 20".

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I absolutely love the sound of the 19" K Custom Hybrid. Probably my favorite crash ever. I have went through 3 of them though. I bought the warranty and its covered. I play heavy, fast, and aggressive music mostly, but this is a great all around cymbal. A bit high on price but thats any quality music gear.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Hands down the best crashes I've ever owned or used! I have the 17" & 18". I don't know what some people are talking about when they say these are too light or chip and crack easily, I hit like a sledgehammer and have no issues at all. I've had these for 6 months and not a single problem, pricey.....but you get what you pay for and these are top quality!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE CRASHES!,,I have the 16,17,19 crashes, and the 21" hybrid ride,,, but my 16 & 19 are my "go to", crashes!,,,CLEAN, CRISP, and so many different sounds in each crash depending on where you hit your crash! I also have the 14 1/4" hi-hats,,,,pricey, but worth the money spent! They sound good no matter what kind of music you play, I play country, country gospel, classic rock, and they "PUT OUT" no matter what kind of music I play. BUY THESE YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

The 17" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid is an excellent auxillary or primary crash for recording or live performance. Being on the thin side it might not have the unamplified volume for hard rock, metal or punk, but could be used in those situations if an adequate PA is used with a quality overhead microphone. However the benefits of the thin profile and gradual taper and small to medium bell are immediately apparent upon striking the cymbal. The fast attack is soft and almost fuzzy sounding and the quick wash is warm and blends very very well with other K series cymbals, particularly the 16" K Dark Thin Crash, the 18" K Dark Crash, and the 18" K Constantinople crash. I also like it paired with the 12" K Custom Dark Splash. For recording, there are few other cymbals that can deliver this combination of tone attack and decay, it would sound great on pop, rock, jazz, reggae, and recordings of other musical styles. This ia a very nice crash that should provide years of musical enjoyment for nearly all musical styles. I recommend it you you, you won't be disapointed.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I went to a local drum store to look for a new crash, I went straight to the zildjian section. I had read about these cymbals in modern drummer, but I had no clue how they sounded. I first hit the 19" and it was amazing. Without doubt the best rock crash I ever heard I immidiatly bought it. Then went back for the 17" two weeks later.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I use this cymbal with a 19 A custom crash, and a 21 Sweet ride, I think I have found the perfect combo! This cymbal opens up very quickly and shuts up very quickly, but still manages to project so well. Its a bit thin so it may not be good for hard hitters. Great product!!!!!!!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

i had heard this cymbal on akira jimbos setup, but didn't know how great they really are. i went to my local music shop expecting to get an sabian aax, but was blown away by the explosion on the 19", an effect that no other cymbal there had. i will be getting the 17" and 15" as soon as i can! i just wish this metal wasn't so overpriced.

    Great Cymbal

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Most definately the greatest crash I've ever heard. I've owned the 17" for a couple weeks now and couldn't be happier. But be warned, these are not the type of cymbals to buy online. There isn't great quality control on K cymbals, some are grand, some are terrible. GO TO YOUR LOCAL DRUM SHOP. Me and a couple of my drumming buddies went to the shop and hit too many cymbals to count before I settled on this one. If you want the best, get this... but honestly, If you want a cymbal that's almost as good, you could buy an A custom for a better price.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

At first I was excited because they look amazing, and then I played them. Traditionally I played A customs because they were bright but my projection crash rang for days. This cymbal has the amazing response of a lathed cymbal, but the polished part rings like an a custom...very versatile, opens up quickly, has a great wash. Overall, my set wouldn't be the same without BOTH the 17 and the 19.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

This cymbal is really a peice of work. It has an outstanding amount of resonance to it. Rather thin, but quite durable, it serves best in Jazz, Funk, Classic Rock, and fusion. You can really appreciate the response to sticks like when playing Jazz ride. The bell sounds amazing, as well. It is quite loud and has terrific tone. I do not reccomend this to Hard Rock, Punk, or Metal players. It does not do well under a severe amount of hard, continuous crashing.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I've been playing these for a few months now and my appreciation for them has grown stronger.I have the 16" and 17" and these are my primary go to crashes. I also have a Sabian 18" Dark crash a K Zildjian Dark crash 18" and a Sabian 19" Studio crash. All these cymbals have very different tones but have similar character and blend so well together. They offer a great palate of sounds for my style of classic rock & blues & some mild punk. They may not work for metal and the like but still great cymbals never the less That's it ! Rock on !!P.S. I still don't like the price but you gotta pay for that sound!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Likes: Sound Looks of the two laths. Stamp is Cool! great application for Rock, Country, Classic Blues etc...
Disslikes: Price off charts for a light cymbal , resale value SUCKS in todays market, and they way Zildjian processes the cymbal because of the finger prints and scratches.
I have been playing for over 33 years. I just boutght 13 hats, 9,11,15,17,18,20 in The K Hibird. They sound is great. I have owned paiste sigs full set, I just replace my Sabian HH full set with the K Hibirds. the difference is the K Hibireds are lighter so the sound will not travel as far as the Sabian HH. But you can realy work some nice dymanics out on them. Dont get me wrong now the 17,18 will put out some volume by all means! I would have to say the K Hibirds are a lot like the Sabian AA in projection and as excellent as the High end Paiste Signatures. If you going for head banging better get a heavyer cymbal or hard music. Rock, country, blues, classic etc... this is a great application. I was a bit dissipointed as to how the new cymbal looked when delivered to me. Zildjian apperently throws them together wiht no seprators becasue of the scratches and funky crap on cymbals. But I am picky so it could be me! I like a nice clean cymbal. I had to send the cymbals back 3 tims to get what I wanted. But let me tell you Musician Friends took very very good care of me!!! These days with all the rush on customers buying up every thing. Musician friends made sure I felt like their only customer and proved it time after time.
QUALITY: is great can beat it! very well made cymbal and great looking laths and stamps.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

This is by far the best crash I've ever bought, and it blends perfectly with my A customs. It's a little expensive, but if you have the money go for it. It sounds great if your recording, if your playing live. If your a hard hitter like me don't worry, it's not too thin. So bottom line, GET THIS CYMBAL!!!! You won't regret it.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I got this cymbal last year for my bithday and all I can say is WOW. I'm in about 4 bands that are all different styles of music and this cymbal works with all of them but I would say overall this cymbal sounds the best with jazz. It has a rich dark sound that makes all my other cymbals sound like crap. I use it as my main crash. I highly recommend this cymbal

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

If you like a dark explosive sound you'll love these. I have a 16" & 17" they are amazing. Explosive cutting attack with a fast decay, tried the 19" it was too washy for me, also tried the dark thin 16" & 17" they sounded almost identical to each other, the Hybrids were a little lighter with less wash. kinda pricey hence the 4.0 on value, otherwise great, I have an 18" on the way.I'm not that heavy of a hitter but I do play agressively; ala John Bonham, Ian Pace, Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer etc...

When I can get up the money I am going to get the 21 inch K Custom Ride then eventually the HiHats. The look of these cymbals is awesome. I also appreciate the fact that Musicians Friend gave me a discount on both cymbals. Made buying them easier.
