Professional cymbal with multiple tonal options.
Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Splash features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.
The K Custom Hybrid Splash is relatively thin to maximize immediate response. Though it speaks quickly, it still has the ability to project and cut into dense mixes due to the unlathed bell.
"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

I have the 11" and it's wonderful paired with my HHX evolution and HHX splashes. It compliments smaller crashes very well ie: 14"-16" crashes of the same quality. The cymbal is fairly thin and decays fast. Sometimes I'll place it on my China Kang and make some funky sounds too!! I got bored and bought another 11" hybrid and made a set of hihats out of them!! Very wicked. I recommend the hybrid splashes to everyone!!!
I was looking around for a K splash when I first discovered the hybrid series, which is brilliant conceptually and sonically. I purchased a splash plus the 17" crash, which is honestly the most beautiful cymbal this drummer has ever heard. If there were a cymbal crash accompanying the trumpets at the gates of heaven, it would be that of the K hybrids. About the splash, it is physically thin, has an intriguing combo of quick decay with the ability to cut through everything else. I will say this, I've seen 2 sizes in this cymbal, and the 9" is in my opinion vastly superior to the 11", which is big for a splash and small for a crash, and while I'm not a categorizing sorta man, this cymbal is better at the smaller size clearly meeting the "splash" definition. The 11" sounds more like a chinsy crash...think early Dixieland Jazz, where the cymbal really just comes across as the gimicky sound at the end of every song. Everything about the hybrid series is spectacular. Compare the sound of this cymbal to the others in your setup, the 11" might be a good match for you. This 11 incher is a decent cymbal, but not for me.
I chose the 11" as my first ever splash. It has a great low-end sound that goes great with my K custom dark crash and mahogany drum kit. It's very sturdy and seems to hold up to the beating of 4 hour rock band practices. Great if you're going for a darker, exotic sound, but probably not for music with a lighter, brighter feel.
