OVERVIEW

Because even all-natural cymbals sound better.

This K Custom Organic Ride from Zildjian features a wire-brushed finish on top for a clean, dry and articulate sick definition. The buffed, unlathed and brilliant bottom allows the cymbal to open up, giving it plenty of crashability without washing out. Medium-thin in weight, it's heavy enough for playability as a ride cymbal, and light enough to open up - creating a lush crash sound.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Organic Ride Cymbal:

After using the K Custom Organic Ride Cymbal designed by drummer Pat Petrillo and Zildjian's Paul Francis, I can unequivocally state that this is the best ride cymbal I have ever played. I got mine a year ago and am still in love with it!

The versatility is astonishing, as it is like having three different ride cymbals in one. The big risk of trying to fulfill so many different, and typically contradictory, sonic goals is that you end up with a cymbal that is just mediocre. Thankfully this is not the case! I don't understand how Zildjian and Pat did it, but this cymbal excels in many different areas.

It has awesome stick definition thanks to the finish and over-hammering, and yet it still has enough wash and is not too dry. It's a medium-thin weight with a brilliant bottom finish, so you can crash into it. However, it decays quickly enough that you can keep riding on it with clear stick definition. The bell pierces through beautifully and the 21" size is perfect. The wire-brushed top finish with the patina is visually stunning, while the brilliant finish on the bottom looks great for the audience. It truly is a cymbal you must experience to really appreciate it.

I play several different genres, and this cymbal shines whether it is a rock, funk, blues or jazz setting. There is nothing more I could ask for in a ride. I highly recommend this cymbal!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Organic Ride Cymbal:

I am a high school band director and percussion major, but aside from education, one of my greatest passions in life is getting out and playing the drums. I play big band jazz, amplified rockabilly, worship music, and jazz combo, and as much as I like to switch out my entourage of ride cymbals, I've reached a point in my drumming where I've found great benefit in having that go-to ride… One that I know every nuance from edge to bell and that I can count on in literally ANY musical situation. A "universal" ride, if you will. In addition, ever drummer has their own unique personal ride sound that, once they play it, a voice inside their head says, "That's it. That's the sound I've been looking for!" I just found that sound in the Zildjian K Custom Organic Ride.

I've explored a lot of Zildjian rides since I've been playing, the Organic Ride honestly highlights every positive quality that I look for in a ride cymbal. It's dark, but not too dark. It's pitch lies somewhere in that sweet spot between dark and mid, where it blends with the mix as opposed to dominating it, and not so dark that it gets buried. The stick definition is very articulate, but not at the expense of wash. This is a dry cymbal, but then again it isn't. I don't know how Paul Francis and the Zildjian team did it, but this thing has the stick definition of Dry Light Ride or Special Dry, but the wash and crashability of a standard K or A ride. You can go from a uptempo swing pattern, catching every stick beat, to a big, lush crash, and go right back to the swing pattern without missing a beat. It's crashable, yet controllable. I've really never seen or heard anything like it! Apparently this is all due to it's medium-thin weight, wire-brushd and unfinished top, and brilliant-finish bottom. And let's not forget that bell… It's BIG! It's big, but not overbearing. It has an airy, smoky character, but still projects like crazy. I like the fact that the bell is separated from the rest of the cymbal. While some "jazzier" cymbals (Constantinoples, Keropes, etc.) feature an integrated bell that activates the entire cymbal when struck, the Organic Ride bell is an entirely separate sound from the shoulder of the cymbal, which gives the player more sonic possibilities. The bell is great for Latin music or any funky accents that might crop up in a rock tune. The big bell also adds to the volume of this cymbal, making it good for anything from a jazz piano trio to a screaming big band.

In conclusion, Zildjian's latest addition to the K Custom family is a veritable chameleon, fit for any musical situation. I use it for just about everything now, and give it my highest recommendations. Try one out, and you just might have found your new go-to ride cymbal!
