A lot of people don't like these. Why? Because they are LOUD!!!!! It is a perfect fit for me and the band I jam with now. Sometimes you need that extra kick out of a crash cymbal and these do it. I own the 19 and 20 inch projection and couldn't be happier. There indestructible and sound great. People complain about a gongy sound but I dig it. I don't always want that bright high pitched crash sound (and when I do my trusty thrash ride is ready to go). I play all Z customs and I use the 20 inch projection as a main crash. Sure ya gotta smack em a bit, but if your playing metal chances are you aren't playing too light anyway. The bell is bigger than my ride! LOL! Overall these are great cymbals. They sound amazing live and even in the recording studio there not bad at all. As a crash ride these hold there own! Get em. If you don't like em sell em to me! I wouldn't mind having an extra on hand in case I ever crack one, but I doubt that day will ever come. Mark

Well, I bought a 19" Z Custom Projection Crash around 4 years back to be used mainly as a crash ride....because I wanted to be cool and have big cymbals. And I'm still all for being cool and having big cymbals. But from now on I'm going for big cymbals with weights lighter than medium heavy becuase this cymbal basically feels and sounds like crap.It is so....LOUD! If you hit it with anything less than every inch of your strength, it doesn't respond at all, except for a wierd ride sound. And it just doesn't feel good to hit it like lighter crashes do, especially if you don't pound on it. This being the case, I broke the damn thing after around a year and a half. Luckily, I got a replacement which is still hanging it there. It's pretty much exactly the same as the old one. But if this one breaks I won't really get depressed. There's better stuff out there. Go with the Z Custom Thrash Ride or Medium Crash. Or even better, get anything A Custom. Those things absolutely rock. =)

pretty good

I needed a crash that i could ride on and wouldn't crack. I cracked a Z custom medium crash and an A series rock crash before i got my 18" projection crash and it's far from being broken. So if you're a hard player and need a crash to ride on this is the one, but beware of the loudness of this crash!!!

I bought this cymbal a few weaks ago. I got the 20 inch. Wow is this thing loud, but also musical. It is the most powerful cymbal I have ever played and also pretty heavy. Sounds good and is durable. I would say best for metal or rock.

Too Loud for Me

By Joel-ohH6O

I play mostly punk with traces of ska, and this is way too loud. I even let a guy from a emo/punk band borrow it and he said it was too loud. And if you try playing it soft, you don't get the true sound out of it. I would suggest to only buy this if you are in a hardcore/metal group. And even then it is probably too loud. The bell is sweet though.

It's ok... sometimes...

Well, I've had this about 7 months now. The bell on this thing is great. You can't beat it. But as a crash, it's just way too loud. I only use the bell. The crash is very obnoxious as the others have said... and my band is VERY loud. So I'd probably look at something else, you should do the same.

Loud!

Okay, so here is the rundown. This cymbal is loud! I am in a band called "Nancy Drew Whats Your Poison" and this is almost too loud. We do play at extremely high volumes and this thing definately cuts through. The sound almost has a gong type feel to it. The bell is awesome. I would definately recommend it for someone who wants sustain and loudness.

More bang for the buck

I've had a setup of almost exclusively Z Customs for over two years now, and I just broke my first one. These cymbals sing, and are perfect in almost any situation for the drummer who likes to smack the cymbal! Light hitters need not apply! I have used them from everything from pop punk to death metal, and they are great! These are perfect for the guy or gal that loves the A Custom sound, but is too rough with them, and ends up breaking them.

Too loud

By Zero-bAaMv

from SoCal

I bought these cymbals and tried them out like any other cymbal; I beat the halo out of 'em. They were way too loud for my band's taste, and the things vibrated forever. I seriously timed the resonation off of the 18" and got like 50 secs before they shut up. Way too dark, loud, and obnoxious for me.

I bought this cymbal because I wanted a crash that I could ride on for fast music like metal and rock.It was very different than I expected. If you want a cymbal to ride on that is for metal DO NOT GET THIS CYMBAL.
