Comments about Zildjian Z3 Rock Crash Cymbal:

For years I have been working my way through the Zildjian family and the Z3 Series is the best set of cymbals I have ever played by far. I hit my cymbals like a brick hitting concrete, so after a few months of use I was always replacing cracked/damaged cymbals. These Z3s are sooo heavy compared to the other Zildjians that they have an amazing explosive ring that fills out your whole sound. Since changing over to the Z3s I have become a much better drummer, instead of having to hit 3 different crash cymbals to fill up my sound, I only have to hit one Z3 because it makes such a huge wash of cymbal that really fills up the bands sound and in a 3-piece group that was really important to me. Playing them on my own I was a little worried at 1st because the cymbal tone was so different compared to the ZBT/A-Series sound, but once I got my band around me, they were an instant keeper! Just like the other reviews say, they only seem to be getting better with age the more i hit them. Of course tone is always going to be in the ear of the beholder, so I would recommend hitting these guys in a local store before getting your own.

Comments about Zildjian Z3 Rock Crash Cymbal:

I got the 17". I needed a new crash because the other ones I have all are cracked. I'm not a hard hitter by any means, it all was a result of time. So since I'm a broke college student, I chose splurge on a heavier and bigger cymbal that should last longer. I went to a store and looked at it and it sounded good enough. Kinda Bright, had good volume, and most importantly was bigger. I played it today for the first time with my kit and it clashes horribly with everything. It tries to be bright and deep/full at the same time and fails completely. Bad response. Does not "cut" through my other cymbals but just sorta lays its loudness on top of them. Way too loud and terrible decay. I realize it's not meant to be fast but it takes an eternity to die out. Might be ok for a 2nd crash, but I have a ZBT Crash Ride I like for that and this sounds like garbage next to even that. I'm a loyal Zildjian customer and have owned their lower end ZBT's and ZHT's but this thing is just shameful and a terrible fit. By far the worst Zildjian I've owned. Gonna return it and go for an A custom.

Comments about Zildjian Z3 Rock Crash Cymbal:

wow, i cant explain it, it sounds awesome! I think your best choice is the 16 inch or the 17 inch but the 18 inch sounds good while the 19 inch sounds a little more like a crash ride but other then that it sounds awesome!

Comments about Zildjian Z3 Rock Crash Cymbal:

I agree with the person who said to allow it to break-in and mature. Out of the box, its sonically very sharp and piercing, almost clashing like its trying to find its voice, but after a few months of playing it really opened up. This cymbal (I have the 18") is at once very explosive and expressive. If you ride on it with a nylon tip you get a very sizzling kind of wash that can be very nice. Lighter strikes or glancing blows along the edge produce a darker, washier sound (akin to a cresendo done w/ mallets). Hard hitters will love the explosive projection. It is not my main crash, as it is very different sounding than my other crashes, but it is perfect for that blast of volume you might be looking for in a downbeat leading into a chorus or ultra-epic build up.

Overall I love this cymbal. I caution you: You may not like it right away. I had some buyers regret at first, but once I broke it in, i ended up loving it. Just give it time to find it's voice.

Comments about Zildjian Z3 Rock Crash Cymbal:

I love this cymbal and want another one.
The sound is beautiful, once you break it in. Some people are complaining about the cymbal before they have in broke it in. Cymbals need a little bit of time to mature and get their full natural sound. once it was broken in it blended perfectly with my other Zilldjian A custom Rezo crash.
I've had this cymbal for a year now it has no signs of cracks or dents.
The cymbal is definetly worth the money.
