OVERVIEW

A brilliant, fundamental hi-hat pair for the beginner. A great all-purpose ride!

Sound grooves and round hammer strikes in a simple circular pattern on the top surface of ZBT cymbals magnify the basic sound of the distinctive ZBT alloy. The ZBT Hi-Hat Pair produces a sharp and focused sound with an excellent, bright "chick."

The bright, intense, high-pitched sound of the Zildjian ZBT series cymbals cuts through the mix of other instruments. Sheet origin and precision lathing techniques create high-volume projection that speaks quickly and brightly with a rapid decay. Since ZBT cymbals are pressed and lathed from sheets of uniform, high-quality bronze alloy, they are remarkably consistent. The highly polished, brilliant finish looks fresh. Superb all-purpose ride cymbal. Excellent, clean stick articulation with controlled overtones. ZBT-Plus cymbals take Zildjian Bronze Technology up a notch with advanced hammering and lathing, and enhanced sound for versatility, musicality, and professional performance.

I got a 13" set of these used, although they are the "newest" version available as of 2014, with the cursive lettering and updating lathing. I got these just to use with my "beater" kit at my rehearsal space. I don't want to keep my "good" kits and cymbals at my rehearsal space, so I use entry level stuff just for practice. Considering that was my motive for getting these hats, they far exceeded my expectations!

First off, let's take this in context. These are not B20 alloy cymbals that are cast. These are B8 or B10 sheet bronze cymbals. Of course, they are not going to have the tonal complexity or darker overtones of cast or hand hammered B20 cymbals. They simply can't. However, for what these cymbals are, they sound WAY better than I was expecting. The hats have a nice crisp sound, and every stick note is clear and succinct. Those have a nice, solid "open and closed" sound, such as when you play the classic jazz swing pattern on them, opening them on 1 and 3 (tie-yup/ta-tie yup). The "chick" sound with the foot is very strong. As clear and crisp as all of these patterns are, they are never overpowering. The higher pitch of the 13" also cuts through a little better. As I stated before, these don't have the complexity or some of the subtleness that my more expensive hats do, but they are not designed to be that way. These are really an excellent all around set of hi-hats that will suit many different genres just fine. I have actually used them on a couple of live gigs just to hear how they performed. I was very pleased with the results! I record every gig, and they blended very nice with the rest of the kit and band. Clear and concise, but not overpowering. Just right! I even had another drummer specifically ask me what hi-hats I was using, because they sounded "great" to him. Needless to say, he was amazed when I told him they were ZBT's. These newer ZBT's are very well made, and sound excellent for "entry level" cymbals.

Thes hats suck. great for beginners, but if you want more tone, and better quality, thes are not for you. I got them when I started getting sereous about drums, I had them for about 3 1/2 years befor I moved on. Dont get me wrong, their good hats, just not for the extercend drumer that does live showes. that just dont sound concert worthy, and thats what im lookin for. If your just startin out, these are great to get cuz you can learn on a set that doesnt break your bank. As for me, Im with the zildjian hybrids. They're amasing!

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I've had these hi-hats in 13" for almost 4 years now and I still use them! They're just the right sound for hi hats no matter what your genre. They're not dull at all, not super crisp, but still very good starter hats.

Dont Fear The ZBT Name, These Rock!!

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

so yeah, i've owned the zbt pro 14" hihats since 2004. they were used regularly over the last 5 years and have not failed me yet. yes, they have lost a lot of their original luster and shine (well, the top hat at least, bottom looks brand new!) but they have become better with age. at first, like most new cymbals, they can be a bit clangy sounding, but once they get broken in, these cymbals really shine and can be extremely versatile. closed, they have a nice pronounced, clear "chick" sound that cuts without being overly loud and annoying. half open, they sound even better. they have a nice cutting, washy sound that blends really well, yet stands out when playing. the only downfall is opening and closing them with your foot. they tend to have a bit of air lock that doesn't allow them to produce the nice sound they probably could. maybe a vent hole or a riveted edge could fix this problem. anyways, the hihats are by far the best of the zbt line, just slightly above the 20 inch ride (which i also love). i would highly recommend them for beginners, intermediate players, and even pro's that want to save a few bucks.

Musicians Friend sold this also through Amazon. Amazon messed up the order, but Musicians Friend made it right. You guys are the best. And the cymbals are pretty nice also. Not near the quality of my vintage Zildjians but a good deal for the price

    ZIldjian ZBT 13" Hi Hats

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I got a pair of 13" ones in a box set and I've never really liked them. The closed sound is decent when I hit it with the bead, but the when you hit the edge the sound is really sloppy and clangy. The open sound is decent and cuts thorugh pretty well. I was getting used to them but after about a year of hard playing, two cracks formed on the top cymbal. Don't learn the hard way like I did and get cheap cymbals the won't last; you can get used, top-of-the-line cymbals for a little bit more that will last forever.

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I have owned the ZBT hats for about a year now, and I couldn't be happy. You can get some great sounds out of these babies. Love the sounds when played closed, and a great chick when playing with the foot. My only complaint is that, when played open, they don't have much sustain, which I would like. Very durable! I would definitely recommend these cymbals to a beginner/intermediate player, and even an advanced drummer with a tight budget.

The zbt hats are a great deal. I don't know why everyone has bad things to say about them, but they are really great sounding hats. All I would change is more a chick sound. I have the 13 inch ones and that's probably why. All in all they are well worth the money.

These hi-hats are to light, meaning they won't give a good chick without a overtones no matter how hard you close them together.but in return they sound great when played open.

These Zildjian ZBTs are... alright. I don't like the sound when they're all the way closed or open. Worth the money, but they're a beginner's pair. Save for something better if you plan to use them for a while. For the music I play (funk, jazz, rock), they haven't scratched or cracked in 3 years of medium use.You get what you pay for.

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I've owned these cymbals for approximately seven years. They've held up well, but are mainly aimed towards the beginning drummer. For the price, you can't find a better deal, but for more experienced drummers I would suggest a better pair of hats.

These hats do the job....I guess. They sound like big tambourine discs. They are a little too bright for my taste. But if you are on a budget these are number one. They don't record well, but you'll have a hard time telling differences in a live situation from higher quality cymbals.

When I started playing drums a few years ago, I thought these hats were pretty awesome. As I progressed with skill, I realized they are pretty much just for beginners. So if you're a skilled drummer but you want something cheap, don't get these. Get some extra change and get some b8 pros.

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Hi-Hat Cymbal Pair:

I first got to play these at school one day and they were pretty good. I'll have to say though I wasn't to pleased with the "chick", compared to like the A customs which are totally different cymbals, but over all the hi hats were OK cymbals. My opinion may be different from yours, but if you want to get zbt's I'd go for the rock ones. Amazingly good for the price!
