I got a ZBT 8" Splash just to use with my "beater" kit at my rehearsal space. I don't want to keep my "good" kits and cymbals at my rehearsal space, so I use entry level stuff just for practice. Considering that was my motive for getting this cymbal, it exceeded my expectations! First off, let's take this in context. These are not B20 alloy cymbals that are cast. These are B8 or B10 sheet bronze cymbals. Of course, they are not going to have the tonal complexity or darker overtones of cast or hand hammered B20 cymbals. They simply can't. However, this sounds better than I expected. It actually sounds like a splash! Most lower end cymbals (price wise) splashes sound more like "clang" than splash". This has a nice attack with a bright splash sound that decays very quickly. Sure, it doesn't have the complexity or subtleness of my more expensive splashes, but it's not designed to, and it sounds just fine. It's nice and thin as well. Let's face it, if you are playing moderately loud music (more than un-mic'ed acoustic stuff), can you really hear the subtle nuances in an 8" or 10" splash? This sounds like a splash, not a mini-hi-hat top like a lot of entry level splashes do. It cuts through the music and again, sounds like a splash is supposed to sound like. I wouldn't confuse it for my Sabian HHX Evolution alone in a quiet room, but during the din of live playing, they sound very close to each other. Because of it's brightness, it actually cuts through a little better. This will work very well if you want a basic, inexpensive splash. These newer ZBT's are very well made and sound much better than "entry level" cymbals.

Wow. I'll try to NOT allow this review to devolve into a railing diatribe.
Well, the disappointment I felt when I got this splash mounted and struck it the first time was overwhelmingly palpable! So much so that, after only the first strike, I stopped and closely inspected the cymbal to see if it was cracked. Then I closely inspected my stand, mounting arm, sleeve, felts, and wingnut. Nope. All were intact and WELL within performance tolerances. Thus, because I LOVE being a drummer AND LOOOOVE Zildjian Cymbals, I felt as though I had been sucker-punched by this Zildjian Splash fail. I'll be 48 yo this year. I have been playing in/with/for bands since I was 14 yo; and began gigging at arnd 18yo. I began with a beat-up Pearl 5-pc., at arnd. age 15, and have been purchasing my own gear ever since. Thus, I've gone through/seen/used/stricken ALOT of Zildjians. Don't know exactly what it is, but something's wrong. Seems poss. that it's the alloy.
Unlike a 'proper' splash, which has a sharp, aggressive attack with a piercing 'tenor' splash and a VERY rapid decay, this 8" Zildjian Splash has ONLY A COUPLE of those qualities. First, yes, when struck, the attack is sharp and aggressive. However, the piercing 'tenor' splash that should be present, is instead a flat, alto, hollow, bell-like affair. Thankfully, the decay is also rapid, which allows a rapid evacuation of its 'sound' from one's head! As an example of how hollow and bell-like this splash is, I submit the following. Just yesterday (3/20/17), during a 4.5 hour practice session, I found myself using the splash as a SECOND RIDE!!! At this point, I have ceased using it as a crash sequence/fill precursor and instead, only use it as an effects cymbal. Even in that role, though, its uses are constrained by its inherently limited capacity. Honestly, I'm starting to feel that it doesn't even justify the stand space it's consuming. I have alrdy begun my search for a replacement splash! BUT . . . it WILL be another ZILDJIAN!

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Splash Cymbal:

A lot of people are saying this cymbal will dent or break if you're a heavy hitter. I play in a death metal band and use this cymbal pretty frequently, and hit pretty hard. Although I haven't been in a band the whole time I've had it, I've had this cymbal for over a YEAR and it still sounds great and there's like no noticeable dents. Being a heavy hitter doesn't have everything to do with it, it's how your technique is. this cymbal can last a long time if you know how to hit it. The sound is pretty good, and for the price it can't be beat. If you know how to take care of your cymbals, then I highly recommend this splash. Even if you're a hard hitter like me.

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Splash Cymbal:

If you havent ever bought a splash, for the price, I definitely suggest getting this. It will give you a nice happy medium of what you would expect out of a small splash. Although For more experienced drummers may not agree this is very good sound quality it is great for armature to advanced musicians only because its not as bright as one may expect.
Not the greatest on a professional Drumming level but great for garage band with local shows. Has a quick splash response. At first I didnt like the tone of the splash but after breaking it in a bit when I used to play Metal, It has a much better sound/tone. Not the brightest response but not dull either, right in the middle.
I have literally beat the crap out of this thing and with some small dents it has held up amazingly!!! I feel the wear on it gives it more character as well.
While some other series and brands of splash have some better tones (more brighter response) for the price you cant beat this cymbal as a first splash anyway. I bought this a few years ago and it still holds up to my hard hits and my band mates love the sound as well.

I got the 8" splash,a while back and It's not bad.B-8 bronze,so you are not going to get the "dynamic range",of an "A Zildjian",or a B-20 bronze, cymbal. With that said, this has a nice splash and bell-tone,which is a trademark of most zildjian cymbals'!I collect cymbals',from all cymbal companies' and they all have a certain quality,or lack there-of.Some people say go with "Wuhan",because they are B-20,bronze,but I can't get past that "Oriental gong" thing, that they have going on and I own several "splash" cymbals',by them.My only advice would be,if you can afford to go to a "ZHT",it is a lot brighter and nicer cymbal. As far as breakage and bending,if you hit any splash, too hard,or at the wrong angle, they will break. They were never meant to be a "heavy-metal",type of cymbal.Original use,was by small- jazz orchestras',for a quick splash and mute!

Great cymbal if you can get a deal on it. Very "effecty." The beauty of a splash is that they are not supposed to sound great - why spend a ton of money on a cymbal like that. This does what a splash is supposed to for a very good price (again, if you can get a deal on it).

I bought the 10 in. Splash when I first started out on drums and wanted to begin expanding my set. It's been three years and this splash is there to stay. It is true that it does dent a bit on the edges but for me it had no effect on the sound whatsoever. You probably shouldn't be rocking out using your splash anyway. If you're like me and just use a splash on occasion to add a quick accent or effect I think you'll be happy with it. Sure there are better sounding splashes but for the price of this one I can't complain at all.

Wow... this thing... seriously I was at my friend's house for practice and playing his dad's set and his dad comes in with this cymbal and mounts it and tells me to play it. So I do and I pretty much wet myself. This cymbal is SICK. You will NOT find this price ANYWHERE. Believe me, splash cymbals, you have to look at for a long time to figure out what you want, I wanted this for sure after just a minute with it. It?s a fast cutter so if you're looking something with a longer lasting effect, shoot for the 10 inch. I?m surprised at the performance. The only problem is that it gets stick marks on it (not dents) and has to be cleaned frequently, depending on how much you use it. Otherwise...AMAZING!!!

I'm a hard hitter and the edge is very dented but it sounds the same as it did when I first got it.I wouldn't recommend this at allunless You are a beginner or are on a low budget.

I'm going to be blunt. This cymbal has sorely dissappointed me. I've had it for about three weeks and it has already cracked in three different places around the bell. Today it sounds just plain awful. There is no sustain whatsoever. It sounds like I'm hitting a piece of tin. Zildjian has let me down for the last time. I am officially a Sabian man.

I bought the 12" cymbal, and it's a great cymbal. It has a clear sound, and blends with different styles of cymbals. I have Zildjian Scimitar Hi-Hats, a Scimitar Crash, and a ZBT Ride, and the sound fits really well. The only problems I've notcied, is that it is a little weak sounding, and the surface marks easily, but other than that this cymbal is great.

I actually prefer it to the A custom splash I had. It's a great cymbal and I love the sound. Just buy it. It's cheap in price but not cheaply made

Comments about Zildjian ZBT Splash Cymbal:

This cymbal (8 inch) has served me well for about 1 month. Then five or six cracks started to appear at the bell and then get bigger and bigger. Now it sounds like crap. I would only buy this if you need a cheap splash cymbal.

I've had the 8" on my set for about 4 years now and I haven't had any trouble. Only about 3 of those years I've been able to play the drums because of broken bones. This cymbal is perfect if you're not going to rock out on just this. Great for beginners.
