Comments about Zildjian ZHT 390 Cymbal Pack:
Are these cymbals ready to go on a stadium tour or made for a Billboard topping album? Of course not. Are they a great sound, solid quality/ construction and a price point built for a budding or budget-minded intermediate musician that can take them through several years before their skill warrants an upgrade to more professional grade cymbals? Absolutely, yes.
I am an advanced level guitarist but started my musical journey as a drummer back in grade school. While I haven't been a drummer in some 15-20 years, I can identify the difference between good quality and poor quality instruments & gear. Bought the ZHT set for my two daughters- 8 and 6, and if I'm honest a little for me too!- to complete their Pearl Sound Check shells. Like the drums, I didn't want total junk that I would end up replacing in 12 months. I didn't learn guitar on a Les Paul, and my daughters aren't getting K Customs to learn on either. The ZHTs are that sweet spot with adequate quality and sound that I feel are- honestly- a BIG step above the entry level ZBTs.
I compared these between the ZBTs but I was not a fan of the "Crash/ Ride" offered in the ZBT set. The 20" Medium Ride in the ZHT set is a true, balanced ride and offers enough versatility for just about any sort of style/ genre. It's my favorite of the pack. The 17" Fast Crash is a great all around crash. I could imagine adding a 14" thin crash for an additional higher pitched crash down the line. The edge of the bottom hat has a "wave" pattern design so that it doesn't sit 100% flush with the top hat, which is different from my old Paiste hand-hammered hats. Yet the hats are tight and crisp with zero rattle with the hat pedal down. As an added bonus, Zildjian throws in a China which has a classic trashy sound like you'd expect in a standard china cymbal.
Overall, I'm thrilled with the ZHT set and would recommend them over the ZBTs. It's worth the slightly higher cost over ZBTs.
