These cymbals are a good mid-level cymbal for those looking for something that's raw and pretty durable. They serve well as a step up from the ZBT's in durability, tone, and volume. They are very thick, so their durability is somewhat limited and the overtone is a little difficult to control when compared to a hand-lathed cymbal. I play pretty heavy music and cracked the 16" and separately purchased 18" crash after a few months. Fortunately, Zildjian has a decent return policy. The ride has a pretty noticeable overtone, but a great bell sound. The hi hats aren't bad, but again, they are very heavy and you'll have to adjust your stand to compensate. So far, they've taken a substantial thrashing and are still intact. Overall, I'd say this pack is an economical purchase for someone on a budget who needs decent cymbals soon. The tone can't match a hand lathed cymbal, but they are freakin' loud. If you can take the time to save up, do so and get yourself a higher quality hand lathed line of cymbals. Otherwise, these will suffice.

These cymbals are good enough for starter cymbals, but most drummers replace these cymbals shortly after purchasing them. These cymbals are made from sheets of the metal which are stamped out by a machine. They sound like garbage and are not a good investment. Any of the cast cymbals such as A's A Customs, Z Customs K's and K Customs (which are actually lathed and hammered) would be a much better investment. Save up your money for the good stuff. Don't waste your money on these.

Best Starter Set Available

By rockdrummer027

See all my reviews

My set consists of 11 cast cymbals so I'm used to the higher priced sound but I went to my friends house and played these cymbals and they certainly surprised me. When I was first starting I had the crappy Pearl cymbals which I immediatley trashed but I have also played many starter sets. This set is by far the best sounding series of sheet cymbals. And the price is unbelievably. I might even go as far as to say that they sound as good as the Sabian XS20 cast cymbal series. Go buy them if your beginning.

Excellent for Begginer/Intermediate

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I have used quite a few cymbals in my day, and this is probably the best setup for a begginer or intermediate drummer i have ever played. They are nicely priced as well. The crash has a very nice sound with a good ammount of overtones. The hats are very responsive, considering they are sheet bronze. The ride is very tough, but not very responsive at all. It would be ideal for heavier music, but not for jazz or lighter music. On the whole, these are excellent cymbals, expecially considering the price, and i would definetely choose these over XS20s or any other begginer setup.

Ok cymbals

By DWdrummer-WJwTI

from Longview, WA

The cymbals overall are ok but the ride rings for way too long. The crash has a very different sound, its not to my liking. I like the high hats. I think this would be a set of cymbals for someone who is just starting out and has a limited budget.

The best cymbals!

By Anonymous

These cymbals are the best! The 20" ride is really great and the sound is too. The 14" hihat and 16" crash are the coolest! I would recomend this package to all Beginners. For the price you have to pay it is not that bad. Buy These Cymbals!

not for everyone

By Pmurf

from Raleigh, NC

In my opinion, everything is a little heavy, but for certain applications this is a good thing. Live, I rarely had to mike these (in small-moderate venues) even the hats. The ride's decay is VERY slow and washy, but sounds amazing recording, without much noise after the ping. Bell is great for accents. Crash I can't get used to...good for letting the band know where "1" is, but really heavy and harsh. You'll need another crash in your setup fro sure. Hats are heavy and deep sounding but learn to work them right and you'll get some nice chic and bark effects, they also cut through just the right amount.

Decent bang for the bucks.

By Anonymous

I purchased these cymbals because my ebay cheapies were cracked and warped. Now I have played on some very high quality cymbals in the years I've been playing, and these are definitley not the best but they are good.I play some very hard stuff and they have not cracked or warped. The ride is very nice and delivers a nice ping. The hi-hat is a tad too heavy. But oh well. The crash sounds pretty good.

Crash cymbal would make a better umbrella really, poor tone, sounds cheap, not "bright" at all. Ride cymbal is pretty good, but the high hats sound cheap and are rather heavy.

Best cymbals I have ever played with!

By rwedrummer21

These cymbals have an awesome sound for their metal quality and a great look too. You get a much better sound with ZXT's than the ZBT's for only a little more cash, especially if your sound is rock or punk.

Ummm, well i got these for christmas about 3 months ago, and I thought it was a joke. Mine came with a feww ZHT China, which i love, the hats are good, the crash is too thin, and extremely quiet, the ride is the WORST, it rings litterly 17 seconds after you hit it, horible for crashing, the bell is ok when you find its sweet spot. I expect better from Zildjian!! Someone buy me an A Custom Ping or a Sweet Ride.
