OVERVIEW

From sports to on-air news, announcing, and interviews, this headset mic does it all.

The rugged broadcast Audio-Technica BPHS1 stereo headset has closed-back around-the-ear cups and a professional boom-mounted microphone wearable on either side.

Audio-Technica designed the BPHS1 for news and sports broadcasting, announcing, and interviews. The headset microphone's cardioid polar pattern is tailored for speech pickup with maximum voice intelligibility over a wide range of frequencies. It is more sensitive to sound originating directly in front of the element, making it useful in reducing pickup of unwanted ambient sounds. The mic's flexible gooseneck boom swivels for easy positioning on either the right or left.

The AT BPHS1 headset's dual earphones offer an extended frequency response of 20—20,000 Hz and smooth, natural sound reproduction. Generously padded circumaural ear cups provide acoustic isolation and long-wearing comfort.

FEATURES
  • Microphone features polar pattern and frequency response tailored for natural, highly intelligible vocal reproduction
  • Closed-back circumaural ear cups help seal out crowd noise and other background distractions
  • Neodymium magnets in microphone and headphones for high output level & detailed sound reproduction
  • Rugged design with user-replaceable cable and ear pads
  • Cardioid pickup pattern of the dynamic microphone rejects off-axis sounds
  • Boom-mounted microphone can be positioned on the left or right side

Audio-technica BPHS1 headset with PC USB

Best Uses

Comments about Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Boom Mic:

I recently bought this headset to use for voice Dictation work with Dragon Naturally Speaking 12.5, and to record podcasts. I selected it because of its outstanding mic (by headset standards) that is specially designed to record the human voice.

However, neither I nor the technicians at the shop where I bought it could get it to work with a PC USB port. We tried using XLR-USB adaptor cables and pre amps without success.

We could get it to work with a sound card using 1/4" - 1/8" jack adapters. However, even then Dragon would not recognize it, and I could not use it for voice dictation. In any case, using a sound card is not as good as using a USB interface and defeats the advantage of having a fairly good mic.

Whilst trialling the headset, I noticed that they did feel a bit heavy after awhile -- although that was not a significant issue. More of an issue for me was that they made my ears sore after awhile. Not enough padding around the ear pieces, I guess. (No, I don't have big ears.)

Since we could not get it to work, the shop refunded my money for the headset. That was a pity because it was obviously good quality equipment that I would have preferred to keep.

Anyhow, I'm back to square 1. If anyone knows how to get this headset to work with Dragon and via a PC USB port, I'd be most interested to learn about it.

    Cheers,
    Hugh

Comments about Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Boom Mic:

The sound quality of these cans is excellent and the dynamic mic is also excellent. I use a pair for two main purposes: for location mixer to boom operator communication, and for studio VoiceOver work with multiple commentators.

      Amazing sound

      By Dean Rohleder

Comments about Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Boom Mic:

Really like this headset. great broadcast quality with amazing frequency range.

This is the second time I've ordered used eq. from Musicians Friend and have not been disappointed yet! Everything has been indistiguishable from new.
Great set of headphones with very good passive noise cancelling, perfect for a percussion player. Would be nice to have a built in vol. control though.
      Great quality, well built, duarable.
Yes it's a little pricy but you do get what you pay for.

      A solid pair of cans

      By gridsleep

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset with Dynamic Boom Mic:

These are the best headphones I have ever owned. I bought these specifically for use with my Roland V-Synth GT, both for their audio quality and comfort and for the boom microphone with XLR plug, which suits the keyboard and vocoder perfectly. I have experienced absolutely no distortion, always get full clarity and volume with perfect balance. They are so comfortable I can wear them for hours without noticing, although my ears tend to get a little warm due to the insulating effect. Also, the cord jack, although removable, is stiff and sticks downward, and I find it catches on my shoulder if I move my head in certain ways; not a big deal but it can be distracting. If you need highest quality studio cans and/or dynamic mike, these are the ones to get.
