For the money, and for the quality of construction and the quality of sound, you can't beat these Cobalt mics for live performances. I don't pay for names, so paying over three times the price for Shure to be printed on my mics is insane!
The Cobalt 4 has standard features for an instrument mic.
I use them every Sunday morning worship service and a couple of nights per week with my band. They have taken a lot of bumps and abuse being setup and taken down so often, but they have never failed to perform. These mics are every bit as solidly built as the "industry standard" Shure mics.

I have used these mics on various stringed instruments as well as brass, woodwind and even percussion instruments and have always received a superior live sound. These mics do a superior job when I use them to mic a cabinet as well.
OK, so here we go with the comparisons. I have used the Cobalt mics, both the Cobalt 4 and the Cobalt 7, side by side against industry standard Shure SM57 and SM58 mics. Every performer that has stated a preference has preferred the Cobalt mics. At two Cobalts for less than the Shure mics, there is no comparison as far as value is concerned. Equal quality of construction and superior performance for 30% of the price gives these mics unsurpassed value.

The features are pretty comparable to every other dynamic mic in the price range on the market. Nothing fancy here as expected the price.
There is a ton of handling noise with these. I didn't think it would be a problem since they'd be set in a stand but found out differently when I used them on a hollow stage. They pick up people walking across the stage, setting down their instruments, but worse of all they pick up the kick drum even on solid ground and create a low frequency feedback. I thought maybe my gain on the board was too loud but I had it set to about -40db. The rest of my mic pres are set to a gain closer to -10db and have no issue. They also sound a bit tinny to me.
I don't see these as a value because I had to go out and buy more mics to replace these.

For the price, you simply cannot go wrong, they are a tremendous value and even include a nice soft bag to store them in. I use them primarily for recording my Marshall combo and acoustic guitar in my home studio. The sound quality is fine, although it doesn't really compare with Shure. I think the tone is a bit tinny, but nothing that cannot be cleaned up with software. If you're an amateur fooling around in your home studio - these should suffice - however if you're a gigging professional or want the best studio sound - spend the extra money and buy an SM-57. Although for my uses, they are a perfect mic at an unbelievable price.

The price seperates these buys as an awesome buy, as they are very versitile and can handle all kinds of instruments! I've tried it on my drums set, tambourine, egg shakers, djembe, and vocals. Not good for vocals! It's mufly and not at all good quality, but as for an percussive instrument it is a dream come true.

EV Cobalt CO4 Great for Accordion!

I've been performing off and on for 45 years and these mics are the equal of anything I've played through, and for the price they're a fantastic bargain.
We struggled for two years to get the right sound for our accordion player. I saw the BOGO Electrovoice Cobalt CO4's on Musician's Friend and, since I needed two, I bought them on a whim. Wow! For the accordion they are a match made in heaven. Perfect sound reproduction (that "dark" sound that others mention compliments the accordion's tendency to produce an abundance of odd upper partials), and the mics tolerate well the variation in distance that comes with the very mobile accordion.
These are heavy, solid mics. They feel like they could survive more than a couple of dives. The weight means they need a good quality stand.
Two great mics for the price of one? I'm back to get two more! I'm going to try one on the cello and maybe see how they do with horns.

Great, versatile, well-made, but cheap mics.
These are pretty versatile mics. For the price of an SM57 you get two mics, and while I won't say they're exactly comparable, they're a great way to round out your collection for practically nothing.
You can't beat these up quite as much as the SM57, mainly because the part around the screen will get bent (and if you use it for vocals, becomes a little dangerous), but they're very durable mics in general.
I can't say enough about how good these sound for the price. You could call it a poor man's SM57 but I think that's oversimplifying. In truth, I've used both in tandem and the somewhat darker sound of the Cobalt has actually been preferable at times. But you're getting a good sounding, versatile mic for a lot of different instrument sources (I like it on snares and certain guitar amps especially, and vocals in a pinch but just like a 57 they won't reduce pops much) for a tiny tiny price.
