Comments about Electro-Voice N/D468 Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone:

I have used several models of mics since 1956 for live performance. No need to name them since they are very common and good for many situations.

I recently purchased the N/D 468 mic on a trail basis after reading a mic review by a traveling road musician who plays jazz saxophone. I have never been completely satisfied with what I have been using for the past 10 or so years so I ordered one on a trial basis.

I hooked up both models and it was very apparent that the 468 had a natural tone with a little more volume output with the same settings for both mics. My other mic also sounded a little metallic compared to the 468. I know that EQ can help the mix on the old mic but the 468 did not need it with a flat EQ.

I have since played a lot of live gigs (party music) and am able to back away from this mic, or play very close at a soft volume and get excellent tonal results. Very good mic for sax!

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D468 Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone:

I've been using the 468 mics for going on 20+ years. I bought a couple back around 1990/91 when they first came out. Used them for live-miking my guitar cabs. Now I'm using them almost daily here in my studio. They are nearly the perfect instrument mic. Light-weight and the design allows you to position them into tight places which is great for drums. They have a smoother tonality to them compared to an SM57 - great for guitar amps! And the mic clips that come with these are fantastic for any sort of pencil-style condenser mic. I bought a few extra for my Oktava mics. The build quality is better than the cheapo bundled mics you see a lot of these days. So yes the price might be a little higher but with good care they will outlast the cheap stuff by a long shot. Worth every penny! You won't be sorry you bought one.

Does What I Need It To

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D468 Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone:

I bought this to use on a Celestion V30 in a Vox AC30. This mic has a smoother high end than the e906 and the sm57 I have, which make it ideal for the V30. I place it 2.5 inches from the center of the speaker without any angle and it gets the sound I wanted it for (smooth and pleasant). I also have a g12h30 in the AC30 and I use an sm57 on that one (placed quite differently) and it gets a grittier and deeper tone that I blend in with the 468 to get my sound.

The mic I was looking for

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D468 Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone:

This is the mic I was looking for, and everything I'd hoped it would be. I recorded different sources with no EQ added on the board and couldn't believe the detail on both ends of the spectrum. Shekere and jingles made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. A cardboard box became a kick drum. My N/D468 is sure to see a lot of use. I love this mic!

                good for the drums

Comments about Electro-Voice N/D468 Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone:

I own two of these for my rack toms. With their swivel hinges, they can easily make any angle possible for easy placement. They make my recordings seem effortless. Although a little pricey, they are worth the dollar; or worth the wait if you are saving up for one.

These are great mics for toms on a kit. the sound is real nice and clear. Also in front of a tube amp the warmth is spectacular. If you want a good professional mic this is it. You won't be sorry about owning this one.
