Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought this mic as a possible replacement for one of my SM58s, which are starting to get some age on them. On the plus side, it has more clarity than a 58, but seems to lack the volume or power necessary to get over everyone else. I found myself becoming vocally fatigued when using this as opposed to the 58, even when compensating for it at the console. Probably best used for a back up mic or on guitars.

        Good Deal

        By Rhythm N Booze

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I picked up one of these when they were on sale just cause it was so cheap I figured it would be a good practice mic. I used it last night at practice and was really impressed with the clarity and the mids and highs. My voice is in the mid range and this mic worked great with it, I will be using it for more than practice I'm sure. The other singer in our band was using a Sure and comented he liked the sound of my mic more than his, he was really blown away when I told him mine costed $35!
This is one of the best deals I've came accross.

        pl44 mic

        By Mardaco Studios

        from Central Texas

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I only give it an 8 overall, because it's not the best for vocal applications.
If it were dubbed an 'instrument' mic, I'd probably give it the 10!
has nice sound, not quite the sm58, but, for the price it's great!
Seems very durable ( I dropped one it didn't get loose or dent, etc...) I use it for micing the guitar and bass amps when recording. they sound perrfect.
I bought three for less than 100 bucks! WOW!

Solid ... Sounds Great ... Prefer to SM58

        By Max Mills

        from God's Country

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

Excellent general purpose vocal and instrument mic.
Plug it in and it works. Supercardioid pattern makes it great for miking snare or rejecting on stage bleed.
Sounds great with the EQ almost flat. More presence than the SM58 we've been using. Nice sturdy feel. My wife plays keys so its usually stand mounted, but it shows very little handling noise. Seems to be built like a tank ... time will tell.
This price ... are you kidding me! I bought 2 and will probably order more.

Good mic especially at the price

        By Derrick Stair

        from Bethlehem, pa

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I wish I had more cheaper mics to compare them to but I wouldn't but anything else for communal microphones.
Compared to a Shure SM58 this mic is bright whith lots of headroom. Much clearer in a mix. But...SM58s are not competitive with what is out there today in the same price point. Compared to a nice mic like the electrovoice 767a this mic does not have the same head room. Almost a compressor feel if you get on the mic. It does sound good but I would never use this mic if I had a 767a on hand. I use these for other people/bands and keep the 767a for myself.
i don't think you can beat the value...

        PL 44 Great mic!

        By Coldweathercacti

        from Central NJ

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

Recently had a SM58 that failed (not very common)that lost half it's output - muddy, etc.,and needed some backup mics. Saw this mic at a "Black Friday" sale for a much discounted price and decided to take a chance and picked up two. I wish I had picked up two more. Put it in place for the main and a background vocalist and was pleasantly surprised. Seemed more articulate than the SM58 it replaced and at least as clear as a SM57. No feedback issues and good output. Will have to see if it holds up to the abuse of our band... so far so good. Would recommend this mic.

        Great mic for the price

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

Definitely a great mic for the price. I compared it with the PL80a, and the PL84 and I liked the PL44 the most.

        Great Mic, Great Price

        By Mikey-dwYjH

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought this mic over the summer and have used it a couple of times to record Sax. It is now my go to mic when I need to record Sax for my university's jazz concerts. I haven't had the chance to use it for vocals, but I am guessing it is killer. Great Mic, and the price is fantastic!

        FEEDBACK CITY

        By MOONROCK

        from Miami Florida

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I bought this mic and also the PL80a and brought them both to band practice. While it sounded comparable to the SM58 it had a lot of feedback, even with some high-end backed off. To me it did not hold up to the SHURE SM58. The Electro-voice PL80a was fine though, I ending up exchanging the PL44 for another SM58.

        Better than a 58

        By gamjamm

        from Havre De Grace, Md.

Comments about Electro-Voice PL44 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I did side by side tests against a shure 58, Senheiser 835, and EV N/dym967. All with flat eq and trims set at unity. All sounded better than the sm58 with the PL44 and E835 the most articulate and almost virtually equal. The EV967 had the hottest signal, followed by the PL44, E835, and sm58. The PL44 won on handling noise with all others almost as good. Feedback suppression on the PL44 was second to the EV967. The EV967 costs at least twice as much, rules on really loud stages but sacrifices some articlation. The other mics cost about the same and I would have to say the PL44 faired best. The sm58 sounded boxy compared to the rest with a lot of mids, less articulation and more mud. The specs on the PL44 are remarkably similar to the e835. The supercardioid polar pattern seams to be the best in my experience to be singer friendly while rejecting feedback/bleed better than cardioid. This mic can also double as instrument/guitar-cab mic, making it an inexpensive all around live-sound mic. I would recommend it to anyone.
