Electro-Voice

Dynamic mic with unique "Dual Personality" switch gives you two ideal studio/live sound mics in one.

Building on the legacy of the Electro-voice RE20, one of the most widely used studio mics of all time, the RE320 is a professional quality dynamic microphone designed specifically for recording and sound reinforcement applications requiring extremely low noise and the highest level of predictable tonal and transient response. Ideal for capturing vocal and instrument sources; the RE320 delivers unparalleled detail, dynamic content, and natural tone.

Variable D is Electro-Voice's exclusive solution to the tonal changes associated with the proximity effect found in other directional microphones. Providing balanced and uniform frequency response up to 180 degrees off-axis, the result is always stable and linear tonal performance—even when the sound source is moving around the mic. Ideal for capturing the critical details of voice, amplified, and acoustic instruments, Variable-D capsules deliver impeccably smooth and natural tone on virtually any sound source.

Utilizing the same humbucking coil technology found in the RE20 and RE27N/D, which arrests electromagnetic field interference introduced by sources close to the microphone, the RE320 produces an ultra-quiet signal path free from the hum and buzz found in other dynamic microphones.

The RE320 incorporates a two-position "Dual Personality" frequency response switch that allows engagement of two vastly different performance curves.

Comments about Electro-Voice RE320 Voice & Instrument Mic w Kick Drum Switch:

This mic needs little adjusting of the EQ and has such a nice tone on Acoustic Guitars and has a really big punch on kicks. I am very happy with this mic and plan on purchasing a few more for other applications

Comments about Electro-Voice RE320 Voice & Instrument Mic w Kick Drum Switch:

While I consider myself an amateur drummer and home studio technician, I have spent a lot of money on mikes that didn't work. I read other peoples reviews with a lot more scrutiny now, and try not to waste any more money. This is probably one of the best investments I have made towards getting the sound I want out of my bass drum. I was using a D112, but it was just too boomy. This mike has a lot of focus, and pretty much eq's itself. It can handle that pounding sound that comes out of a bass drum, and seems to compress it into a nice, low sustained, thump. Much more versatile when playing different genres that don't require you to put your foot all the way into the front head. I like to play jazz and funk (mostly), so sometimes you want to be soft on the pedal, and this mike allows gives you that range. If you hit it soft, it sounds soft, if you hit it hard, it comes through with force. I use a felt round beater and don't have to change it for whatever I want to play. Just let your foot do the talking.

It is one of the most solidly built mikes I have ever owned, and while it is also a large mike, the clip allows you to get it all the way in through the front hole on the reso head. It's heavy, and not going to move, and being a dynamic mike, you can put it all the way in, and still have some headroom on the gain. The D112 has gone back into it's box, and may not see the light of day for awhile.

Another Major Piece of Equipment from EV

By Jay Walsh

from Tucson, AZ

Comments about Electro-Voice RE320 Voice & Instrument Mic w Kick Drum Switch:

This is the mic I've been waiting for. I use these for broadcasting and podcasting. Currently, I've been using both the Heil PR40 and the Rode ProCaster. Both excellent microphones. But for my voice, I absolutely love this microphone. Thick, creamy lows and just enough top end to help my voice cut through. Sibilance is a thing of the past.
If you've got a problem with popping or sibilance, you're going to love this mic. The rolloff switch is the unique factor giving this mic a ton of uses in the studio.
It's a typical RE mic - built like a tank. Heavy.
The only comparable mics to this are the RE20 ($400+), the RE27 ($450+), and the Heil PR40 ($325.00)... maybe the Rode ProCaster (at around $230).
