The Classic Pro blends today's studio-quality sound with a classic '30s look.
The Heil Sound Classic Pro is a professional dynamic cardioid microphone designed for commercial broadcast, recording, and live sound reinforcement applications. The Classic Pro delivers smooth, flat response over a wide frequency range. Aesthetically, the Classic Pro mic is an exact reproduction of a 1930 broadcast microphone complete with cast-steel base and stainless steel trim.
The Classic Pro achieves its exceptional performance by using a special magnet structure and a 1-1/8" aluminum, low-mass voice coil assembly. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly, with equally placed ports that sense out of phase audio from behind the source. The result is a very linear cardioid pattern, a reduction of the proximity effect, and smooth articulation across the mic's response range. A sorbothane rubber shockmount--complete with breath blast filter--minimizes handling and breath noise.
The supplied base can be removed so the mic can be suspended from the Heil PL-2 Proline balanced broadcast boom (sold separately). The cast-aluminum name flag has 2 sides, allowing 2 sets of call letters.

This mic, new out of box, had problems from the get-go. Very low output with most professional PA systems, picks up floor noise unless you have a good amount of padding on the bottom of your mic stand. I'd recommend side-stepping this model and choosing something else by Heil.
I received my Classic Pro 2 days ago. I wanted the look that said Bluegrass. I only waited this long to write because I thought I was dreaming. Every review I read on http://www.heilsound.com site are true! Actually I can't describe how much better. Check his site for the specs. I emailed Heil on New Years Day (@6pm) with a question. Bob Heil answered himself within 2 hours. Needless to say I was impressed. Yes this mic even blows away ribbons and condensers. Yes even in single mic applications. Gather around, the "New Sherrif in Town" got a new deputy. You owe it to yourself to join the posse. You'll be glad you did!
