I recently got an akg perception 200 as a gift. This mic was included w/ it. I used it today to record some guitar tracks and other than volume it sounded almost identical to my beta 58. Nice casing and windscreen. This mic feels very comfortable in your hand.

Mic itself is not bad for the money, compared to my SM57, SM58, and beta 58a. How it will arrive from Musician's Friend is though. 1st Mic arrived with nothing but the mic in a used looking piece of bubble wrap. Emailed Musician's Friend support, was informed that it should not arrive that way, should come in a box, 10 year Sennheiser warranty, etc. Issue RMA and a return shipping label, I ship it back, the replacement arrives the same way. Funny I buy a Sure SM57 on sale for Seventy Two Ninety Nine, arrives in a nice box, with a pouch, a mic ring adapter, all the paperwork, warranty, and a nice sticker. I got this mic for Forty as the Stupid Deal of the Day. I am deciding to keep it as a spare due to the price but would never consider buying another Sennheiser after this experience. I will most likely not be purchasing anything from Musician's Friend again either since they did not list these as 'restock', 'B-stock', etc. I am also contacting Sennheiser as to why they would want to sell their mics this way through Musician's Friend because the MI customer support told me that "This email is to inform you that our warehouse has checked our stock of the item in question and they are shipped in a large carton but individually packaged in the pouch. I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience."

When they say individually packaged in the pouch, what they are talking about is a pouch piece of bubble wrap with a mic inside, nothing else! I am going to list this as 'No, I would not recommend this to a friend', not because the mic is terrible. How you receive it is and something fishy here from Musician's Friend, why would Sennheiser wan't any of their products being sold and shipped like this? Going to be sticking with Sweet water and other retailers from here on out since they truly value their customer's experience when purchasing an item, even if it is on sale or a one day sale. When buying anything 'Brand New', I expect it to arrive in the Manufacturer packaging, etc. Had I paid the normal price of Seventy Nine Ninety Nine for this Mic I would really not be HAPPY!

Comments about Sennheiser e822S Dynamic Handheld Vocal Microphone:

I bought two on sale. I am entirely delighted with both. The single most important feature for me, was a durable On/Off switch. This helps reduce stage wash in the PA when that person is not using the mic. This has little value for the main singer, but is very useful for occasionaly backup singers.

The mic is heavy metal and feels durable. We use HotSpot monitors immediately behind the mic, in the cardioid dead spot.

The only weirdness about the mic is the cable attachment. When the switch is up on the top of the mic, the XLR connector release button is on the bottom. This is only a head-scratcher and "huh", not a defect. Most mic clips are longer on the bottom edge, meaning the mic has to be fully inserted in the clip to clear the connector release button.

As noted elsewhere, the mic ships in a bubble wrap bag tossed into a very large box. This is better shipping treatment than it will get in the gear bag of many bands... no big deal for me, as both worked correctly.

I bought 2 of these mics on a two fer sale to have a couple of emergency back ups. Well an emergency happened not soon after and both of these mics were pressed into service to replace two SM58s. Well I'm not going to say they were better than the Shures but they weren't a whole heck of a lot worse. As a matter of fact, they were pretty darn close. I wouldn't recommend them as the main singer's mic but for background singers, they do the job just fine. For the price, they're absolutely fabulous!

Excellent German quality. I can beat the daylights out of these and they hold up great.Great on axis response.

Comments about Sennheiser e822S Dynamic Handheld Vocal Microphone:

I picked up a couple of these mainly for rehearsals. They are very solid and have a good handling feel. There is little handling noise with these which surprised me as well. The output of these is not very high as they had to be gained up a little higher than the EV767a's that I had been using. They almost pick up no sound from the sides so they work pretty well if having them stuck in front of some floor wedges. You do need to get right on top of them if you want any low end, I mean straight on top. Not a little from the side, but straight down on top. Meaning you won't have much sound if you try singing into them from a side angle. They do much better than the workhorse 58's though.

I have 45 years of playing, recording and running sound experiance . This is a very good mic for the price. the sound characteristics are different from lets say a SM58 it is a little crisper. So you have to spend a few seconds adjusting the sound to achieve the sound characteristics of the singer you are mixing for. I baught a couple of these for my studio. Very pleased. They work well with my TC Helicon vocal procesors and I have even used them to mic drum toms. Sure it is not as good as the Audix DP Elite series but they worked well. for the studio or the road these work well. Sennheiser makes a very good mic and this one works well AT THIS PRICE.
