I orded this mic to replace my PG58. I imediately notice a change in the dynamic range. The bottoms were more noticable and the bright a bit more clearer. The on/off switch is a MUST for live events. Becuase of its low handling noise, turning the switch on/off is barely noticable audibly. The switch is non-recessed, sticks up about 1/4" and slides very litely.
I was asked to come help tweak the sound in a small church sanctuary and I brought this SM58S and two PG48 mics. Without even adjusting the eq's I replaced three of their low-end mics with these and it totally fixed the problem of their low-mid 'hum' and high-end 'whistle' feedback. The proof is in the pudding.

Comments about Shure SM58S Mic with Switch:

After emceeing and performing weekly through several summers with a mushy sounding mic it was past time to look for a replacement. After reading the reviews and comparing with different brands the decision to go with the SN58S was made. It was a wise decision after hearing the difference when the recordings of the shows were played back. This is a great vocal mic and the shipping time was 3 days. Hard to beat.

Comments about Shure SM58S Mic with Switch:

When I needed an additional vocal mic I bought the most popular mic used, the SM58S (mine has an additional switch). When comparing side-by-side the SM58S to my vintage Realistic 33-983 Professional Series mic I was pleasantly surprised. The SM58S sounds significantly better! True, the Realistic is old & is out of production, but it is still considered a good sounding mic, and beats out many other mics. However. it goes back to what the ear doesn't hear it doesn't know. After hearing how incredible the SM58S sounds I don't want to use the Realistic 33-983 anymore for vocals. So I just purchased an additional SM58S to replace it. It is obvious to me now why this mic is rated so high. I do recommend using the XLR cable solely if your amp input permits, instead of an XLR to 1/4 adapter jack. When I tried a brand new XLR to 1/4 adapter jack in my combination XLR/1/4 input I got air noise and a reduction in mic volume. I'm not sure why, maybe it is the amp's wiring. However, I get a very quiet sound using only the XLR jacks.

Comments about Shure SM58S Mic with Switch:

Shure SM Series mics have stood the test of time. I have 4 SM 58s and 4 SM 57s that are over 20 years old and still doing gigs. This mic is a bit of a disappointment, however. I think the mic will last but the cheap switch feels like it will fail. That said, the switch also looks to be replaceable.

First used the Shure SM58 in the 1970,s playing professionally in local rock bands. The SM58 is as good now as it was back then..... and the Musician's Friends representative was amazingly helpful!

Comments about Shure SM58S Mic with Switch:

I ordered two microphones for the singers in my band. They are twins and these mics were for their birthday. The two I requested were out-of-stock. I waited a week and changed my order to two SM58's with a switch. They were suprisingly lower in cost than I remember. The mics arrived in time. The SM58 is perfect for live vocals. We've used Shure mics for instruments and drums. The price and quality were very good to excellent. Thanks again Musician's Friend

I purchased this microphone for my wife. She was using the standard PG 58. This SM58S is so much better for her higher notes. I tried it out myself. I use a PG 58 also, but I sing mostly mid-range songs. So I will probably stick with my PG. I sang some low notes though, in the SM58S and they were very clear. My theory is If You want clearer highs and lows this is great. If You sing mid-range use a PG58

Bought my first Sure SM58 in 1979. This is my second. I was not disappointed. It really produces lush rich tones in my voice (or maybe, that huskiness is age related-LOL). Love it!!!! The on/off is great for my little set up since I'm connected directly into a speaker w/amp. and not running through a sound board--I can turn on/off and not worry about feed back.

Comments about Shure SM58S Mic with Switch:

I started performing in the 70s and we used a Sure Vocalmaster as our PA along with the Shure mic's. The group I am in now has several different mic's and the lead singer uses a SM58. It by far has the cleanest tone quality and it really sounds sweet during indoor or outdoor concerts. Hup... I bought one and I'm sure I will get many years of enjoyabl use out of it.
