About Fender Redondo, Fender Malibu & Fender Newporter Acoustic Guitars

Inspired by some of the most popular beaches near where Leo Fender opened his factory back in 1946, Fender created the California Series steel-string acoustic-electric guitars. This collection offers you plenty of affordable and colorful options that are anything but run-of-the-mill. For 2018, Fender took three of its original California Series body shapes–Redondo, Newporter and Malibu—and redesigned them into three new price points–the California Classic, the California Special and the California Player. Behold, the Fender Malibu, Fender Redondo and Fender Newporter acoustic guitars.

If you're not familiar with Fender's California Series acoustic-electric guitars, they exude a cool California vibe with distinct, matching painted six-in-line Fender headstocks, stylish Viking bridges, and a mesmerizing variety of finishes that are anything but traditional. Their solid Sitka tops and solid mahogany bodies provide a warm, familiar tone. The Fender California Series has something for everyone. And you don't need to travel to California to enjoy them, either. Just surf the Musician's Friend website to check out the entire collection.

The Fender Redondo is an exclusive contoured dreadnought cutaway design with an ample 25.6 in. scale sure to impress with exceptional bass response and rich, room-filling tone. Its generous cutaway and slim-taper C-shape neck give allow for fast, easy play. The Fender Newporter is a slightly smaller concert-size design with amazing balance. It begs to be in the hands of singer/songwriters looking for a cool, comfortable companion guitar. It also features a cutaway and has optimized bracing for superior resonance. The Fender Malibu features the sleekest body shape of the three, with a small, narrow waist and 24.1 in. scale. This highly articulate guitar design is ideal for accompanying you into the studio.

Fender California Classic Guitars
The California Classic option is for the discerning guitarist. They come with painted tops in your choice of two eye-catching finishes culled from the electric guitar world, Hot Red Metallic or Cosmic Turquois. Appointments such as koa binding and rosette, and bone nut and saddle, give these steel-strings an extra touch of class. Fender and Fishman collaborated on the Classic's premium preamp system which gives you a 2-band EQ, phase and volume control, and a tuner. Whether you're taking the stage or settling up for a session in the studio, you can plug in with confidence. Each comes with a Fender Deluxe gig bag for ease of transport.

Fender California Special Guitars
Fender's California Special guitars are a mid-range offering with all the same wood pairings and electronics as the Classic models. They even come with the Deluxe gig bag. What makes them special? Fender substituted maple for the binding and rosette and dressed them all in a rare matte black finish.

Fender California Player Guitars
The most accessible of the series, the California Player acoustic-electric guitars comes with more budget-friendly appointments, including a simplified Fishman preamp (you only lose phase control), a Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle, 2-ring Black/White/Black rosette, and regular gig bag. However, the California Player guitars let you make a real splash with a wider range of finish options, such as Candy Apple Red, Arctic Gold, Champagne, Rustic Copper, Electric Jade, Belmont Blue, Aqua Splash and more.
