Ancient tones, updated with Breedlove's cutting-edge designs, and homegrown woods.
With a design that harkens back to the golden era of mandolin building, the Breedlove American mandolin combine the best traditional construction elements with Breedlove's cutting-edge aesthetics and attention to detail.
The American OF mandolin is a teardrop shaped 8-string. The body design provides a boomy, deep range that punches through a mix with clarity and authority. You won't believe the sound and power that comes out of such a little mandolin. It features F-holes with tone bar bracing, allowing for increased projection. The solid Sitka spruce top and flamed maple back and sides further complement the bold projection, so this O-style can be heard no matter what arrangement you find yourself in. Whether practicing at home, jamming with your buddies, or blazing some Bill Monroe licks at center stage, this 8-string mandolin sounds killer. The 13.94" scale, 1-3/16" nut width, and 16" radius provides comfort and accessibility when running up and down the mandolin's 23 frets. The bolt-on maple neck and the ebony bridge and fretboard provide amazing clarity and sustain, while also making the Breedlove mandolin incredibly sturdy.
Dressed in a smooth satin finish, with Gotoh M120-N tuners, and chrome hardware, this mandolin is truly a bluegrass looker, and will impress everybody within range of its killer tone and breathtaking looks. Includes Breedlove deluxe hardshell mandolin case.
The Breedlove OF mandolin not only sounds great, but is also very easy to play. Details like a radiused fingerboard and generous string spacing make it a very comfortable mandolin. Design features such as low-profile neck and tail blocks, and a floating bridge extension ensure maximum resonance and tonal response.
Classic roots sound made in America.

Comments about Breedlove American Series OF Mandolin:
The Breedlove OF is a compromise in many respects, but a good one. Not the resonance of the oval hole, but sweet and with more punch. Not the chop of the F-style but better tone, especially up the neck--which is one of the most comfortable you will ever play. It is radiates and is finished wonderfully--the ebony and maple combination is strong and silky at the same time. Mine is more comfortable at an old time jam, but will hold its own with the bluegrass group as well. Witty and getting better with age--have had it about nine months and its getting better as we go along.
Quality overall is superb and proudly American. Those folks in Oregon are doing good things for us without breaking the bank. It is a plain Jane, no ornaments--just good wood. Tailpiece works well but takes some getting used to. Would definitely replace if lost or stolen!!
