Featuring a midnight maple fingerboard and vintage artisan inspired inlays.

The stunning new Artisan Goodtime banjo embodies Greg Deering’s lifelong vision for the Deering Banjo Company – to make the best sounding, best playing, best looking, and best value U.S.A. made banjo that he possibly could. It is a never ending quest that Deering pursues every single day. So with improved tooling and a higher than normal dose of creativity, we bid farewell to our old friend the Classic Goodtime and welcome with open arms the stunning aesthetic of the new Artisan Goodtime Banjos.

The familiar rich dark brown stain, planetary tuning pegs and the addition of spikes at 7,9, 10 for alternate tunings allows this light weight maple banjo to exceed the features customers wanted and needed. The violin-grade maple rim is made of the same wood used on the professional level Deering models and gives the Goodtime banjo a rich, full, round note distinction.

Light weight enough to travel with, convenient enough to keep by your easy chair at home, the Goodtime Artisan is great for hours of practice with a neck that is both comfortable to play and accurate to fret. This Goodtime banjo is not only beautiful to look at but will bring you hours of musical enjoyment.

Deering Banjo Company was founded in 1975 as the world’s specialist in banjos and has grown to become the largest manufacturer of American made banjos in the world.

Easy to play and easy to take with. Order today.

Comments about Deering Artisan Goodtime 5-String Openback Banjo:

This is my third Goodtime banjo. I have worn out my first one - the base model. I have bought a "Classic" special to play at historical reenactments. I loved the pro features of the special, including the spikes and planetary tuners. I'll be using it wherever a professional backless banjo would be called for. But the tone ring does make it heavier and louder, so I bought an Artisan backless to use as my travel and practice banjo. Without a tone ring or resonator, it's quieter, with less sustain, but that makes it much less objectionable in hotel rooms, etc. It also makes it more suitable for playing styles that involve strumming, such as clawhammer.

The engraving on the head and the pressure-stained maple fingerboard give it a classic look, that would be at home on any stage or post-1835 historical recreation, and the spikes and planetary tuners make it easy to use in a professional setting.

Comments about Deering Artisan Goodtime 5-String Openback Banjo:

Just received. It is very playable. The thinner neck works well for me particularity in playing higher up the neck. The tone is softer than the Ameicana. I am very pleased so far.
