Featuring exclusive Midnight Maple fingerboard and vintage Artisan-inspired inlays.

The Goodtime Blackgrass is the ultimate banjo for players looking for something a little on the darker side. The pure black stain of the all maple wood is accented with matte black hardware and a black head which combine to put a dark twist on an otherwise traditional instrument.

Built exclusively by Deering Banjo Co, the Blackgrass is built in the same San Diego factory as all other Deering models and has a familiar Goodtime vibe that echoes some of the aesthetics as the new Goodtime Artisan line. The Midnight Maple fingerboard is inlaid with Artisan style pearloid inlays and the banjo still features the ever present 3-ply violin grade maple for optimum tone and resonance.

So whether you are a true picker, a punk rocker or a punk picker…if you are looking for banjo with a bit more bite in the looks department, look no further than the Blackgrass.

Midnight Maple
In the wake of the widely reported over harvesting of exotic woods, commonly used for fingerboards, Deering Banjos has developed Midnight Maple – the result of over four years of research and development (as well as a great deal of patience) to produce a high-quality fingerboard that is ethically sustainable, readily available in the U.S. and that could be developed and manufactured in house. Unlike stained maple boards commonly found on instruments of the past, Deering has developed technology to penetrate the tight grain of the rock maple, all the way through the wood. No raw wood shows through from string wear on the fingerboard and stain does not come off on a player’s hands.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Blackgrass 5-String Banjo:

Deering has been making these Goodtimes for many Years. They've got it figured out pretty good by now.
I got this one at a great sale price making it a even better value. It plays well, Looks great, Very Little set up needed. Basicly just make sure the Bridge is set in the right spot, Tune up the strings, Check all the hardware for tightness and Play, String height is just right. I have several Heavy Mastertone style banjo's, and I wanted this to have around the house to ease my back pains. This one does not have the tone ring, making it very light weight and comfortable to hold.
I recommend any of the Goodtimes, very playable & fun. And also a big plus is they are Made in the USA
