OVERVIEW

A new kind of 6-string banjo designed to bring out the creativity in the player.

With repeated requests from its customers to create a 6-string Goodtime banjo, Deering focused on giving the customers what they wanted with the Goodtime Solana 6. The Goodtime Solana 6 is a modern 6-string banjo designed to bring out the creativity in the player and features all of the American craftsmanship and quality that owners of Goodtime banjos have come to expect.

The Solana 6 stands out from the pack thanks to is its nylon strings which offers the player a sweet, mellow tone akin to a classical guitar, but with the bright undertones of a banjo.

The versatility of the Solana 6 is rounded off with a piezo pickup that sits directly under the patented East Indian rosewood bridge plate, formerly seen only on Deering' Phoenix 6-string banjo. The bridge plate is placed underneath the hand crafted Deering bridge and is designed to even out the effects of the string vibration resulting in an increased sustain, decrease in boominess, and less feedback allowing the player more freedom in a live performing situation when partnered with the piezo pickup. The sound of the Solana 6 is further enhanced by the larger Grand 12 rim which creates ample breathing room for the natural low end of the Solana 6, making a bold statement right out of the box.

The rim of the Solana 6 is constructed of the same 3-ply violin grade maple that is at the heart of the entire Deering banjo line up. The rock maple neck features East Indian Rosewood ring style inlays, a classical guitar inspired peghead, and smooth, accurate classical guitar tuners with pearloid buttons. The beautiful blonde maple of the Solana 6 is further complimented by a dark East Indian Rosewood tailpiece which bares the Deering name.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Solana 6-String Banjo:

If you are comfortable with a classic 2" neck and nylon strings and want a different sound, I suggest you listen to it on you tube with some decent earphones. The scale is a bit longer than classic guitar but not enough to really feel a fingering difference. It's a very different sound than my resonator banjo but a beautiful sound in my opinion.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Solana 6-String Banjo:

I started some years ago with nylon string guitar with a wide neck. I think this is a relatively new product, and wish it had been around a long time ago. It feels right for finger style playing, and for large hands. It is light, sturdy, easy to tune, easy to play, and sounds good plugged in, or not. The tone is unique in a good sort of way, and acceptable to me. If you require the tone of a solid wood top, or an all solid wood guitar, buy one, this is not that If you want the sound of a 5- string banjo, this will not do that either, but Deering has some fine and affordable ones available in the Goodtime line-up. This banjo/guitar I am sure will survive environments that would be very tough on an all wood instrument. Over the years I have had experience with a variety of fretted instruments, and have learned a few things. If you get a new instrument out of the box, and do not like it, you may come to hate it in time. If you get one out the box and like it, you are likely to like it more as time goes by. I liked the Solana-6 when I got it, and like it more every time I pick it up, daily, it's a keeper. I hope this is helpful.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Solana 6-String Banjo:

I returned it because the lower register does not project and, as it turns out, I personally hate the '2x4' feel of a classical guitar neck.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Solana 6-String Banjo:

If you don't feel comfortable with a classic/flamenco 2" neck this might not be for you. I am and love this half-breed banjo with a classic guitar neck. I have many guitars, a 4 string Tenor resonator banjo , a Fender Rustler 6- string banjo set up in Nashville tuning and I don't frail with picks . This is like none of them in sound but if you think out of the box , this has killer tones to inspire the artsy person to create something unique.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Solana 6-String Banjo:

i learned my fingerstyle technique om a 2" neck and like nylon strings so this baby was a natural for me. I usually play a Fender Rustler resonator banjo set up with Nashville tuning by my luthier. I wanted something that would have the opposite tone and this is it. The sound has a sweet and unique quality that you can get to love easily. Not for you bluegrass guys though!
